Givenchy has revealed Sarah Burton as the replacement of Matthew M. Williams as the brand&#8217;s creative director

The buzz surrounding a potential replacement for Matthew M. Williams as creative director of Givenchy has gotten decidedly loud over the past few months. And now, the French fashion house has finally made an official statement, revealing that Sarah Burton has been appointed to the position for both menswear and womenswear collections.
Following this appointment, Burton will present her first-ever collection for the house in March 2025, during Paris Fashion Week Autumn/Winter 2025/26.
In a statement regarding her appointment, the British designer revealed: “It is a great honor to be joining the beautiful house of Givenchyl it is a jewel. I am so excited to be able to write the next chapter in the story of this iconic house and to bring to Givenchy my own vision, sensibility and beliefs.”
Burton becomes Givenchy’s eighth designer and second female couturier, a title she is more than suitable for given her experience as Alexander McQueen’s creative director. This week, Burton will be introduced to the workers of the ateliers at Avenue George V before starting her work in earnest.
