<h2>BACK ON TRACK. Back from her short break, British singer Pixie Lott chats with DA MAN about her new single, her upcoming album and more</h2>

English singer, songwriter and actress Pixie Lott is back in the limelight as just a short while ago, in late March, she released a new single. Not that she’s ever been away, mind you, as she’s still actively performing; but it’s been quite a while since she’s released new music, so the new single was highly anticipated. Titled “Baby” and produced in collaboration with British DJ Anton Powers, the song quickly made its way to singles charts all around the world. More importantly, “Baby” also heralded the coming of a new Pixie Lott album in the near future.
So, it perhaps shouldn’t have come as a surprise that when Lott arrived in Jakarta—to accompany her fiancée, model <a href="http://daman.co.id/?s=oliver+cheshire" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Oliver Cheshire</a>, who was the guest of honor at the 10th DA MAN Party in early May—she was met at the Soekarno Hatta international airport by her adoring fans. Naturally, during our interview with the bubbly starlet, before going into her musical career, we simply had to ask about the impromptu “welcoming committee” during her first visit to Indonesia.

DA MAN: We saw on Twitter that you had fans coming to welcome you at the airport. 
Pixie Lott: Yeah, oh my God! It’s been amazing because I’ve been wanting to come to Indonesia for so long. I’ve had this really supportive group of fans from here and I only spotted it on Twitter—that’s how I knew that they were here. And they would say “Come to Indonesia!” I have never been here before, so, I think that now, I’m super excited.
DA MAN: Of course everybody is talking about you with the release of your new single. Can you tell us a bit about the collaboration you had with Anton Powers? 
Pixie Lott: It’s been a while since I’ve released some new music and I wanted to come back with something that’s just fun, up-tempo and clubby for the summer. So, this was the perfect way to sort of come back and collaborate with the DJ, and then we can do some shows in places like <a href="http://daman.co.id/?s=Ibiza" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Ibiza</a> and Suffolk in the summer. After that I can release my own singles; that’s the plan.
DA MAN: And you&#8217;re releasing a full album in 2018. 
Pixie Lott: Yes, it will be next year, since we got to have a few singles to come out first.
DA MAN: Will there be anything new in terms of musicality or themes? 
Pixie Lott: I definitely want to make it really now-sounding and really fresh; 2018-sounding. My last album was really retro, because I love soulful music; it’s the style that I like to sing and the style of the singers that I grew up listening to. For this album, though, I want to make sure it’s really now-sounding, even though it still incorporates soulful melodies and emotional lyrics. Just songs that people can relate to.
DA MAN: Speaking of now-sounding, since your last album in 2014, what do you think has changed in the global music scene? 
Pixie Lott: Oh, it’s changed massively and I couldn&#8217;t believe it now that I’ve come back with new music. Streaming has obviously taken off massively. Before, when I would release a song, it would be in promo for six weeks and on the radio for six weeks or eight weeks, and then the song that would come out after. Whereas now, the song is available at the beginning. So the song goes in low and then it sort of builds up. Before, it would come in high and drop; now it comes in low and builds up, like the American way. We were always in reverse and now, to stop illegal downloading and people trying to get hold of the song before it’s available, they turned it on its head.
DA MAN: Going back to “Baby,” is there a story behind it? 
Pixie Lott: It’s pretty much just about a relationship and the highs and lows of a relationship, but still being better together, still being the best together and so it still ends on a positive. In the acoustic version of the song, which is literally just vocals and piano, you can hear the lyrics more and it’s more emotional. The actual version is pretty feel-good because it has a beat behind it and it’s all summery.

DA MAN: Will the other songs in your upcoming album have the same level of depth? So that when you hear different versions of them you experience different feelings? 
Pixie Lott: Definitely. I always want to have songs that have depth to them or just songs that make people feel something. So, if it makes them really happy and they want to dance, or if it makes them cope with a situation: break ups or, you know, just hard times. I always like to do songs that help people in some way.
DA MAN: You’re also still acting, right? 
Pixie Lott: I did more of it last year. I was doing a play and it took up a lot of the year. I did, like, 180 shows. We did eight shows a week and it was really hardcore, I’d say.
DA MAN: If we could go back to your new single a bit: You just got engaged a few months ago; is the song about your fiancée? 
Pixie Lott: You know, it’s funny because I can’t really say it&#8217;s about him, because it was an idea that was already there. I guess when I sing “Baby”—when I sing the acoustic version, where you can feel more of the feeling and the emotion—I always like to try and relate it to my own life. So, I think about me and Oliver. I always try and relate it to myself so that it feels more real and more genuine.
DA MAN: So, you have a new single just out, you have an album in the works, theater and you also did a runway show with Dolce &amp; Gabbana if I’m not mistaken? 
Pixie Lott: Yes, me and Oliver did it together. It was my catwalk debut. Obviously not Oliver’s; he’s done it many times. So, he showed me the ropes, which was amazing. I was so excited to do it because I’ve been a massive fan of Dolce &amp; Gabbana my whole life, and they’ve been so supportive of me ever since I first started as a new artist. They really support new artists and they’re really loyal. That was a real moment to walk for them with Oliver. It was crazy because we got there so early and it was a whirlwind of a day. Everyone was rushing around: make up, hair, backstage. I was, “My God, this is really exciting.” And then the show lasted like two seconds. We did our walk, and I was like, “Oh, it’s over?” It went so quickly. I’m used to getting ready and doing a long show. But then there was the after party which is really fun and I got to perform at it as well.
DA MAN: You have quite a lot on your plate this year. Next year too, obviously. How do you balance your time? 
Pixie Lott: Good question. I don’t know, really. I’m a real “go with the flow” sort of person, so I just take each day as it comes. And if it does feel overwhelming at times, I just have to slow down and really think about it by taking each day at a time. Also by not thinking of the whole thing and get into overkill and getting overwhelmed. But, I feel lucky that I get to do what I love, so I really enjoy doing all those sorts of things. I think it’s really fun and I just want to make sure that I can do it forever. But I do think that it’s important to have those times of rest. That’s why I&#8217;m really looking forward to go to Bali and see the sunsets there.
DA MAN: What do you usually do to just relax and unwind? 
Pixie Lott: Recently, I’ve been finding it hard to unwind, so I really wanted to start doing like meditation and stuff, because I hear it&#8217;s really meant to be good for that sort of thing. So, I really want to get into meditation. I did a class last week or the week before. And it’s not a challenge in the way it’s a hard workout; it’s a challenge in the way that you have to stay really still. I really want to get good at that. And my favorite thing to unwind is spas. Massages, facials—I just absolutely love it. That&#8217;s my favorite.
DA MAN: You have a full album coming out, but that’s next year. What can your fans expect for the rest of 2017? 
Pixie Lott: The rest of the year? After “Baby” and all the shows over the summer, I’ll still be working and doing things with Anton over the summer. Then “The Voice Kids” will be on TV in June and July. I’ll just have more singles out around that time, and then another one probably before the end of the year. And it’ll be all about the music. I love all different sides of performing, so I’m always obsessed with being as rounded as a performer as possible. But sometimes I think that’s my downfall, because I want to do everything. I want to make sure this year I’m focusing on music, whether it’s releasing, doing shows or being in the studio, and not getting too distracted by doing a bit of acting here or some dancing there. I just love it all, but I’m going to stay focused on music for this year, for sure.
