Our Favorite Looks From The Onitsuka Tiger Autumn/Winter 2023 Collection

Under the direction of Andrea Pompilio, the Onitsuka Tiger Autumn/Winter 2023 collection was presented at the Milan Fashion Week

Themed “Urban Layering”, Onitsuka Tiger debuted its Autumn/Winter 2023 collection last Wednesday. It draws inspiration from the traditional Japanese practice of wearing multiple layers of clothing, such as the kimono, to create a complete ensemble. The collection incorporates oversized and flowing tailoring, a fashion trend originating from Japan, to create a contemporary interpretation of this ancient tradition.

By infusing Onitsuka Tiger’s sporty DNA with the essence of the traditional Japanese layering practice, Creative Director Andrea Pompilio has achieved a significant milestone for the brand. The result is a collection that retains its athletic spirit while showcasing a more refined urban aesthetic. The collection features oversized needle-punched faux fur coats, tailored melton coats with a transparent effect, visible padding detail on the back, and large knitted martingales. Crisp melton is also utilized in oversized three-button jackets and coats.

The mega anoraks stole the show, also mainly due to their striking volume. Onitsuka Tiger collaborated with Zanter, a well-known Japanese brand producing high-quality down-filled outerwear since 1956, for this piece. They are designed to be worn on top of each other to create a voluminous yet not bulky silhouette, paired with baggy nylon and melton trousers and quilted chiffon shorts layered over boxer shorts.

The color scheme is understated, with the classic black as the base color, complemented by shades of gray, beige, and accents of pumpkin orange. As for the footwear, it is tailored for the urban city style, featuring lightweight and refined leather ankle and below-the-knee boots, as well as trainers that have been hybridized into outdoor-style shoes with partially hollowed soles. Another thing to be highlighted is that the Onitsuka Tiger logo is now rebranded with bolder lettering in yellow and black, the brand signature colors.
