The Japanese fashion brand is inspired by Nostalgic Tokyo for its Spring/Summer 2022 Collection
Under the artistic direction of Andrea Pompilio, Onitsuka Tiger presented its Spring/Summer 2022 collection during Milan Fashion Week for the second time running. Through a short movie titled “MILAN-TOKYO” directed by Hideto Hotta, the digital presentation takes us on a trip from Milan to the unexpectedly empty streets of Tokyo. Models are shown starting their journey wandering at an airport then moving through the streets of the metropolis. The big traffic lights, bridges, streets and elevated expressways all looked empty. Then the alleyways of Shinjuku and Shibuya transform into a runway with neon signs decorating the scene.
In total contrast to the city, these stages are lit in colorful neon from the various shops and taxi stations. The white lace on the seat covers clashes with the colorful LED lights of the automatic doors. The trip ends on the rooftop of one of the city’s many skyscrapers. A nocturnal Tokyo, waiting to wake up to the restless routine represents energy and modernity. Onitsuka Tiger’s collection, with its fashion-meets-sports-oriented aesthetic, fits perfectly into the setting.
2022 will be the Year of The Tiger—coincidentally the core symbol of the brand. And to commemorate this recurring theme of power, animal and geometric prints are seen throughout this collection, splashed across multipurpose items. Horizontal lines are found in the beachwear while accessorized with bucket hats, belt bags and backpacks. The collection also added two new styles of sneakers featuring tiger patterns on the upper and soles.
