No Time(piece) To Die: 007’s Most Iconic Watches

007 a.k.a. James Bond has always been looking sharp and geared with the best equipments, including  his cars, suits, and watches. Since making its debut with 1962’s “Dr. No” until the recent announcement of a new Omega for “No Time to Die” hitting the theater this Aprilthe James Bond franchise seems to have a knack for featuring serious horology on the big screen.

The spy’s love for horology was born as the manifestation of Sir Ian Fleming’s passion for watches. It does not only prompted one of the best marketing as well as legendary partnership deals of all time, but one could ponder upon the idea of whether Bond was actually a watch nerd.

We take a look back at some of the most iconic watches that the fictional action hero has managed to strap on his wrist.

Breitling Top Time

Film: “Thunderball” (1965)
Actor who played James Bond: Sean Connery

It was in the fourth instalment Q Branch provided Bond with a modified Breitling Top Time Chronograph that also functions as a Geiger counter to measure radiation—making it the first watch-turned-gadget in the whole franchise. Fun fact: The exact same Breitling somehow made its way to an English flea market in 2013, where it was purchased for only £25. Sometime later, the owner then resold the watch for over £100,000 at auction.

Seiko G757 Sports 100

Film: “Octopussy” (1983)
Actor who played James Bond: Roger Moore

Digital watches were on the rise by the mid to late 1970s, and Roger Moore’s debut as Agent 007 introduced a new era for the franchise itself. He quickly established a reputation of the spy who preferred cutting edge digital timepieces than classic Swiss-made watches, and comes in the list of Seiko’s.

Making an appearance in one of the most scandalous franchise titles was the Seiko G757 Sports 100. It has the ability to follow a tracking device by way of a digital red dot on the screen alongside a functional digital chronograph.

TAG Heuer Professional Night-Dive Reference 980.031

Film: “The Living Daylights” (1987)
Actor who played James Bond: Timothy Dalton

In 1987, Timothy Dalton was announced that he will be replacing Roger Moore as the new Bond. Dalton became one of the lesser adored Bond, with many standing in his defence as the “misunderstood Bond” for bringing a hard and less humorous edge to the character as well as the franchise. Given the new Bond vibe means a new watch to complement it: hence the more serious TAG Heuer Professional Night-Dive Reference 980.031 quartz dive was Bond’s selection of timepiece.

Omega Seamaster Professional 300M Ref. 2541.80

Film: “Goldeneye” (1995)
Actor who played James Bond: Pierce Brosnan

This Seamaster is the OG that would pave the way for many more 007 Seamasters to come. In the mid-90’s, the James Bond franchise was having its resurgence thanks to the sharp looks and sly demeanour of newly appointed Irish actor Pierce Brosnan tackling the lead role. 1995’s “Goldeneye” also introduced Omega as the franchise’s official watch partner. Making its debut was the Omega Seamaster Professional 300M Ref. 2541.80 quartz dive watch that could shoot a laser and contains a built-in detonator—thanks to none other than Q Branch.

Omega Seamaster Professional Planet Ocean 600 Ref. 2900.50.91

Film: “Casino Royale” (2006)
Actor who played James Bond: Daniel Craig

Just when we thought the perfect Bond was sealed by Pierce Brosnan, 2006 came the uber-serious Daniel Craig who took us back to square one of how the whole franchise began. Between the two “Casino Royale” watches—being the automatic Seamaster with a co-axial escapement and the Seamaster Planet Ocean—we had to go with the later. Apart from seeing a fresh new black dial compared to the usual blue ones since “Goldeneye”, it simply shows how sturdy the watch is when its kept strapped in Bond’s wrist while running around being chased by African militia compared to…rolling in an Aston?

Omega Seamaster 300 Ref. 233.32.31.41.21.01.001
