Nike Surprise-Drops A New Self-Lacing Sneaker for Air Max Day

Tired of lacing your sneakers? In celebration of Nike’s Air Max Day, the apparel giant has released its latest self-lacing sneakers with an awesome tech update for added convenience.

There’s a memorable scene in 1989’s “Back to the Future II” where Marty McFly (played by Michael J. Fox) encounters a futuristic pair of Nike high-top sneakers that laces automatically around his feet. That design was then brought to life in 2016. Fast forward to the present day, and in celebration of Air Max Day, Nike surprise-drops its latest auto-lacing sneaker: the Adapt Auto Max.

Sampling elements from both the Air Max 90 and the Air Mag, this new self-lacing sneaker features an increased profile and thicker midsole designed to specifically emphasize the cassette element. It also has a built-in FitAdapt engine which offers instant personalization and responsiveness.

“Nike Adapt is our pinnacle offering where performance meets connection,” said Nike Global Digital Innovation Senior Director Brandon Burroughs. “For the first time we can deliver dynamic comfort and protection to the Air Max platform, powered by a frictionless digital utility that will enable the shoe to get smarter and do more over time. In coupling Nike Adapt with our iconic Air Max platform, we’re providing wearers with the future of fit and ultimate ride in one shoe.”

The Adapt Auto Max ability to connect with the Nike Adapt App offers exclusive access to the latest update of Nike Adapt features. These include being able to instantly adjust the Adapt Auto Max using voice commands through Siri. Apple Watch wearers can also conveniently tighten or loosen the fit. But that’s not all.

This coming spring, Nike will release new colorways for the Adapt Auto Max alongside a new update which enables wearer to choose from 13 different iconic Nike colors in order to illuminate their lace engines, and also select pulsing or static options. The first iteration, the “Motherboard,” is available via Nike SNKRS at USD400.
