ZO-REALISM. Kenzo is once again making a headline for pulling off one quirky campaign after another.
The 2013 spring/summer ad featuring two models posing the “X” silhouette is outdone by the surrealist zoo-like pictures, produced by no less wittier duo called Toilet Paper, for the fall/ winter collection. One image depicts male supermodel Sean O’Pry and Japanese actress Rinko Kikuchi pinned down, literally, on a blue background amidst enlarged insects.
Another is they’re flying on a hand ride, and there’s also a cat peeking out of a shoe. As weird as it sounds, Kenzo designer Humberto Leon defends the idea, “I want to give Kenzo a voice that is different from everything else.” And the Toilet Paper unapologetically nails that challenge.
