DESIGN GURUS. Salone del Mobile, an annual international furniture fair in Milan, is not only a playground for product designers and architects as it is also where fashion brands flex their design muscles outside fashion.
Giorgio Armani, for instance, rolled out limited edition furniture pieces as part of its Armani Casa collection to coincide with its 40th anniversary. Meanwhile, Loewe’s creative director Jonathan Anderson designed and sculpted 50 leather bowls himself to create a collector’s set. Working with famous names in design and architecture fields are Bulgari that tapped Zaha Hadid, one of the most in-demand architects of today, to design a snake-inspired installation; Ermenegildo Zegna that brought in Patricia Urquilola to create seats made of wine barrel wood; and Tod’s that collaborated with a Japanese design studio to create the perfect bag for architects.
