Movie Review: The Hobbit

BACK TO MIDDLE EARTH. Given that Peter Jackson’s Lord of the Rings trilogy earned nearly $3 billion in global box office revenues, as well as innumerable awards, it’s no surprise that The Hobbit, the literary predecessor to the Fellowship of the Rings, would be turned into a movie

What has some fans raising their eyebrows is the fact that they are turning the relatively slim novel into another trilogy of films. Whereas Jackson had to cut out significant sections of the Lord of the Rings novels to fit them all into his films, filmmakers will no doubt have to invent new scenes to fill out The Hobbit trilogy.

Martin Freeman (Sherlock) plays a young Bilbo Baggins, uncle to Frodo and the first Hobbit to venture out on a great journey with Gandalf the wizard. He is joined by a band of merry dwarves, led by Thorin Oakenshield. This first installment will hopefully prove that the trip back to Middle Earth is one worth taking.
