Movie Review: Lincoln

THE GREAT EMANCIPATOR. Steven Spielberg seems to have settled into a routine of alternating between fun passion projects like The Adventures of Tin Tin and Indiana Jones and more serious, historical epics.

His latest from the latter category, Lincoln, returns Spielberg to the time of slavery, which he previously explored in the film Amistad, but this biopic of America’s iconic 16th President is much more interested in political procedure than philosophizing. Daniel Day-Lewis is superb as Lincoln, disappearing into the role completely and making the historical figure into a well-rounded and flawed character, which ultimately shows how impressive his political accomplishments truly were.
