“Aladdin,” Disney’s latest live-action adaptation of one of their classic animation features are playing everywhere in a mere days. And while trailers and clips and songs from the movie have circulated the web to build up fans’ hype, eagle eyed watch fans noticed something else this week.
During the movie’s European premiere screening in London, Mena Massoud, the actor playing the title character was seen sporting the IWC Portofino Automatic.
The classically versatile Portofino Automatic made news upon its release a couple of years ago simply because of its, well, simplicity. A metal rounded case, plain white dial, baton numerals (apart from the 12th and 6th hours), black alligator strap, and certainly, minimal complications. Yet, that’s what makes the Portofino Automatic a favorite. In the age of chronographs and multiple complication features, it boldly came out just with the essentials, and strived anyway.
We would like to say that Massoud’s reason in choosing this timepiece is to mirror the movie’s being ‘born again’. A timeless classic made for the modern time – but meant to last forever. Actually, we do believe that. Kudos for a brilliant timing and decision.
