LVMH Watch Week 2021: Bvlgari’s Fantastic Four

Recently unveiled at the first luxury watch reveal of 2021, here are our four favorite timepieces from Bvlgari

When it comes to the designs of Bvlgari, the Roman Jeweler haslong been influenced by “Estetica della Meccanica,” or the aesthetic of mechanics, where ingenious functions takes shape as exquisite form. In particular, the brand’s Octo Finissimo is the ultimate emblem of this design philosophy, as innovation and mechanical mastery continue to inspire the latest editions in the line. On top of that, for a new level of sensorial expression, the Italian brand also elevates the micro-mechanics of Swiss watchmaking with an artful interpretation that comes to life in its innovative materials and audacious design.

With all that being said, here are our favorite timepieces from the master of “Estetica della Meccanica,” which unveiled its latest creations at LVMH Watch Week:

1. Bvlgari Octo Finissimo S

Bvlgari’s Octo Finissimo was a rule breaker from the moment it made its entrance back in 2014, and has continued to redefine the boundaries of style and modernity with every new edition. Last year, the Octo Finissimo disrupted the luxury sport watch segment with the introduction of the Octo Finissimo S, a stainless-steel design featuring the thinnest automatic movement and a water resistance rating of 100m.

This year, the Octo Finissimo S comes in a new monochrome edition. This new stainless steel version features a 40mm steel satin-polished case with a new silver vertical-brushed monochromatic dial and a radial brushed bezel. The watch houses the automatic in-house ultra-thin caliber BVL 138 with micro-rotor (2.23 mm), which displays hours, minutes and uncentered small seconds at 7 o’clock.

2. Bvlgari Octo Finissimo S Chronograph GMT

Aside to the new monochrome edition, Bvlgari further expands its Octo Finissimo S line this year with the Octo Finissimo S Chronograph GMT. The watch blends sporty practicality with mechanical complexity, as this ultra-modern timepiece is available in satin-polished steel with a new blue-sunray dial paired with silver counters for a more sport chic look.

Powered by the automatic in-house chronograph and GMT ultra-thin calibre BVL 318 with peripheral rotor (3.30mm thick), its ingenious mechanism allows the watch to display a second time zone on the sub-counter at 3 o’clock. Lastly, the watch also features an octagonal case with a diameter of 43mm and a larger screw-down crown than the former sandblasted models to ensure water resistance up to 100m, which at the same time reaffirms the sportier character of the Octo Finissimo S line.

3. Bvlgari Octo Finissimo Chronograph GMT Titanium

Bvlgari also released a new version of the Octo Finissimo Chronograph GMT Titanium, which now comes with a new dial and a rubber strap for a sportier look. The 42mm watch features an automatic in-house chronograph and GMT ultra-thin caliber BVL 318 with peripheral rotor (3.30 mm), which has an overall thinness of 6.9mm.

Just like the previous novelty, the watch combines a chronograph and GMT function that allows it to show two time zones at once. Moving ahead from its original matte titanium monochrome aesthetic, the Octo Finissimo Chronograph GMT Titanium is crafted with a titanium case and black opaline dial for lightweight strength and anti-corrosion.

4. Bvlgari Octo Roma Carillon Tourbillon

Bvlgari Haute Horlogerie is once again in the spotlight this year with its new masterpiece of sound: the Octo Roma Carillon Tourbillon. Designed to raise the level of sensorial expression through sound, this limited edition timepiece features a three-hammer chime combined with a tourbillon regulator.

Driven by the brand new manually-wound Caliber BVL428—which is 8.35mm thick, and comprises a total of 432 components—the construction of this manufactured in-house movement prioritizes sound first and foremost.

Moreover, the generous proportions of the case are designed to maximize sound propagation, allowing for increased torque of the three-hammer construction and more sound power production. This construction is protected by a titanium case fitted with the Carillon activation push-button on its left side.

All in all, with a masterful three-hammer chiming watch that uses ultra-complex mechanisms and the innovation of a metal grid on the movement that helps to propagate sound throughout the case body, the Octo Roma Carillon Tourbillon truly showcases a perfect fusion of artistry and technique, in which precision is the framework that underpins exquisite, transcendent beauty.
