Louis Vuitton Launches Its First Ever Rugby Ball with Dan Carter

In collaboration with legendary New Zealand rugby player Dan Carter, Louis Vuitton launches its first ever rugby ball. It will be available as a limited collection on the September 20, 2019—the same day as the 9th Rugby World Cup’s opening game.

The sophisticated black and silver-coloured signature Monogram Eclipse design of the ball was chosen by Carter himself to reminisce the world-renowned uniform of the New Zealand rugby team. The highlight of the design future is the once-existing traditional lacing along with Dan Carter’s signature, integrated into an oval-patch made in Louis Vuitton’s tanned cowhide leather. The ball also comes with its own carrying harness and tee—in black cowhide leather and drenched in Monogram Eclipse details.

“I am so happy with the result”, says the all-time highest points scorer of international rugby. “Seeing the ball for the first time was like a dream come true. The hard work with the design team, picking the materials, the colors, the final details–it all came together perfectly.”

It will be available at selected stores in Japan—the country where Carter plays—with a limited release to just 112 units, the same number of appearances he made for New Zealand between 2003 and 2015.
