Louis Vuitton Fights AIDS with (RED) by Creating I (RED) Candle

In collaboration with (RED), Louis Vuitton created Louis Vuitton I (RED) candle, which has been composed by the House’s Master Perfumer Jacques Cavallier Belletrud, and its design created by Marc Newson. (RED) is a non-profit organisation created in 2006 by Bono and Bobby Shriver, to transform the collective power of consumers into a force for good.

For each candle sold, $60 is donated directly to the Global Fund to fight AIDS in support of (RED). “This collaboration with (RED) is indeed a very proud moment for Louis Vuitton and marks a milestone in our story. (RED)’s very courageous fight concerns us all, and we at Louis Vuitton will continue to champion their values and dedicated work. We remain fully committed to supporting this cause and are pleased that our candle will help in furthering the fight against AIDS,” says Michael Burke, Chairman and CEO of Louis Vuitton.

Taking the colour red as his inspiration, Cavallier Belletrud selected the finest-quality natural ingredients to develop the candle’s fragrance, creating an olfactory experience which evokes the universal emotions of love, freedom, warmth and purity. By blending
a peony’s sweet, peppery and floral olfactory notes with the fruity vibrancy of raspberries, the burning candle becomes alive with harmony, optimism, and emotive pleasure.

Rich in character, yet subtle. “I was keen to create something that has a strong universal character and with a real sense of liberty. I started with a peony flower accord which has a pronounced character through its highly floral elements with hints of spice, wood, and fruit. It is a perfume in itself,” explains Master Perfumer Jacques Cavallier Belletrud.

The Design of I (RED) candle

Marc Newson’s creativity and craftsmanship sees the Louis Vuitton I (RED) candle transformed into an audacious and iconic design object. The hand-cast, white ceramic container offers a unique form, while the signature Louis Vuitton hand-sewn, the natural leather handle allows for portable convenience. The wax’s white, opaque finish contrasts with the hand-painted wick coated in a vibrant shade of matte red. This long-sought-after colour, rich and intense is also found on the red-finished metal disc – both the candle’s lid and its base – and on the candle’s packaging, acting as visual reminders of the candle’s association with (RED) and the fight against AIDS.
