Louis Vuitton Announces the Louis Vuitton x NBA Capsule Collection II

After announcing their unexpected partnership in January 2020, Louis Vuitton x NBA presents another collaborative creation

In January 2020, Louis Vuitton announced a three-year partnership with the NBA and has since, with Virgil Abloh, the men’s creative director for the luxury brand, created clothing, footwear and accessories that united the designs of both institutions with a ’90s-inspired feel to it. Earlier this month, the second installment of that partnership was announced: the Louis Vuitton x NBA Capsule Collection II.

Motivated by the exchange between French craftsmanship and American sports, Abloh created a limited clothing and accessories line uniting the emblems of the two institutions. The collection  adapts the designer’s codes with the iconography of the basketball universe and honors the values of relatability and inclusion that are key to Abloh’s vision at Louis Vuitton. Throughout the process, Abloh worked alongside famed American streetwear artist Don Crawley. Crawley collaborated on a blouson, shorts and a Keepall adorned with iconography of the game, as well as the collection’s emblematic basketball and hoop objects.

“This collection celebrates the cultural contribution of basketball and its diverse characters, and the idea of relatability as a force of unity,” Abloh states.

Just like the first Louis Vuitton x NBA collection which was released last year, this second collection features a lineup divided into travel, game and press conference categories. The travel lineup consists of articles with a more relaxed fit such as suits, jackets and pants with floral motifs, as well as shorts suits and hoodies with logos. The game lineup features a shirt with the lettering Louis Vuitton in the NBA team’s lettering style. Meanwhile, the press conference lineup features a combination of professional aesthetics and laidback styles through tailored suits, overcoats and bomber jackets.

The Louis Vuitton x NBA Capsule Collection II will be available in stores worldwide starting Friday, May 28.
