MAD FOR MANX. When Sara Blakely, founder of modern corset manufacturer Spanx, revealed that she was going to create an entire line dedicated solely for men, her plan was met with confusion and ridicule.
Only a few would expect Manx, short for Spanx for Men, to be what the media is now calling “a huge retail hit.” Skeptics can say whatever they want, but the truth remains that a great number of men are drawn to the shape-forming undergarments’ ability to tone the chest, improve posture and hide excess bulk tightly under the clothes, giving them a narrower waist and flatter stomach.
Both the medium-stretch Cotton Control and high-stretch Zoned Performance collections are made from a combination of cotton and spandex; the latter have an added zoned compression panel that further shapes abs and torso. The underwear collection, Cotton Comfort, include “3D pouch cups” and are made from cotton that comfortably contours.
