This new shoe uses elements from Smith’s New Balance favorite silhouettes, the 1700 and the X-Racer.
Jaden Smith has just presented his first signature New Balance silhouette dubbed the Vision Racer. The shoe blends together the brand’s design language with contemporary aesthetics by fusing elements from Smith’s favorite New Balance silhouettes, the 1700 and the X-Racer.
Smith’s unique flair resulted in a “Wavy Baby Blue” colorway, an exaggerated proportion of the midsole and the split chunky base with a mesh and suede upper. These elements are usually seen on the 1700 and X-Racer. Another notable touch of branding appears under the translucent outsole and the insoles, which printed with his signature as well as “(Vision)” graphics executed along the midfoot and in oversized font similar to the young artist’s album across the outsole.
Each element of the Vision Racer incorporates partially recycled materials and is vegan-friendly. The upper is made of a smorgasbord of recycled material, its textiles and synthetic leathers are made partially of recycled polyester from post-consumer plastic. The insoles combine castor bean oil, recycled foam and rubber plus virgin polyurethane. The use these sustainable and vegan materials have pushed the New Balance supply chain further and helped speed up the brand’s timeline to be more responsible for its sustainability.
