IWC Schaffhausen expands its most architectural line, reaffirming its position as one of the industry’s purest expressions of functional luxury

Earlier this year, at Watches and Wonders Geneva 2025, IWC Schaffhausen unveiled a major evolution of its modern Ingenieur line. The brand introduced three new expressions of the collection: the Ingenieur Automatic 40 crafted entirely in 18K 5N gold, the Ingenieur Perpetual Calendar 41 and the Ingenieur Automatic 35. Together they balance historical reverence with contemporary sophistication.
The Ingenieur traces its aesthetic lineage to Gérald Genta’s Ingenieur SL, reference 1832, yet in its latest form the collection emerges with a presence that feels unmistakably current. The familiar silhouette from the 1970s remains but every proportion has been reconsidered to support the complexity of each caliber without compromising comfort.
The result is a modern classic that is technically ambitious, beautifully constructed and unmistakably Ingenieur.
IWC Schaffhausen Ingenieur Automatic 40 in 18-carat 5N gold
Visually, the warm red-gold tone of 18K 5N gold—applied to the case, bezel, crown, bracelet and even the appliques—transforms the Ingenieur Automatic 40 into a statement of architectural elegance. The watch reveals its complexity not through ornamentation but through the interplay of edges, angles and textures. Its black “Grid” dial strengthens this design philosophy, the precisely engraved squares adding depth and shadow that heighten the oppulent glow of the gold-plated hands and appliques.
Turn the watch over and the technical artistry continues. A see-through sapphire case back reveals the IWC-manufactured 32111 caliber with a double pawl winding system and a 120-hour power reserve. Finished with circular Geneva stripes, blued screws and a gold-plated oscillating weight, the movement reflects the brand’s enduring commitment to engineering excellence.

The new Ingenieur Perpetual Calendar 41 brings together two defining threads of the maison’s history in a single, sharply executed reference: the bold Genta-inspired aesthetic of the 1976 Ingenieur SL and the ingenious perpetual calendar developed by the late Kurt Klaus in 1985. The result is a stainless steel complication that feels thoroughly modern yet deeply rooted in the engineering-first philosophy that has guided the brand for generations.
In its 41mm form the case has been carefully re-proportioned to house the complex IWC-manufactured 82600 caliber while preserving the compact ergonomic feel that defines the contemporary Ingenieur. The blue dial immediately captures attention. It features the Ingenieur’s signature “Grid” structure, a pattern of raised segments and squares that plays with light and reinforces the model’s technical character. Three counters are arranged with textbook balance while the integrated H-link bracelet, satin-brushed with polished accents, completes the familiar silhouette with a fluidity that underscores IWC’s mastery of industrial design.

IWC Schaffhausen expands the Ingenieur family with the debut of the Ingenieur Automatic 35, revealed at Watches and Wonders 2025. Conceived as a refined companion to the 40mm model, this new 35mm version preserves the architectural language that has long defined the Ingenieur while at the same time adjusting its proportions for those who prefer a more compact, elegantly balanced sports watch.
Offered in three distinct executions—a full 18K 5N gold model with a warm gold dial along with two stainless steel versions with silver-plated or black dials—the 35mm edition distills the collection’s key elements into a slim 9.4mm profile. Despite its smaller size, the Ingenieur Automatic 35 maintains all the details enthusiasts value: the functional five-screw bezel, the integrated bracelet and the striking “Grid” dial. Together they broaden the reach of IWC’s most architectural line.
