Celebrated for its innovative spirit, Swiss watchmaker Hublot recently launched an extraordinary collaboration with esteemed contemporary artist Daniel Arsham. This visionary partnership has given birth to the Arsham Droplet, a revolutionary timepiece that reimagines the classic pocket watch by blending antique form with futuristic materials and production methods. The Arsham Droplet represents a true milestone in horology, offering versatility in three ways as a pocket watch, a pendant and an eye-catching table clock.
Inspired by organic, fluid forms found in nature, the Arsham Droplet is crafted from a harmonious blend of titanium, rubber and sapphire crystal, reflecting Hublot’s unparalleled attention to detail and commitment to innovation. Measuring 73.2mm in length, 52.6mm in width and 22.5mm in thickness, its ergonomic design fits perfectly in the hand, providing a truly immersive horological experience.
Presented with two titanium chains, each featuring Hublot’s patented double “one-click” system for seamless attachment, the timepiece can be worn as a necklace, a pocket watch, or displayed as a sculptural centerpiece on its decorative titanium and mineral glass table stand. Limited to just 99 pieces, the Arsham Droplet is a true collector’s item and a masterpiece of modern watchmaking.

To shed some light on the story behind this extraordinary creation, Daniel Arsham shared insights into his collaboration with Hublot, highlighting their creative journey in developing the Arsham Droplet and the contemporary innovation that defines this special piece.
Why did you want to create a pocket watch? Especially considering that this is such a traditional form&#8230; 
It hasn’t been done in this way before; this is the first full sapphire pocket watch as far as we can tell. So, much of my work is about thinking about the past and connecting it with the future; it’s like mixing times. This object looks like something from the past; it recalls this way of telling time that’s from another era. But at the same time, it feels like some kind of technology from the future. In a way, it is related to many of my other works.
Is there a meaning behind the choice of creating a pocket watch instead of a wristwatch? 
Anytime I work with another artist or a company, I try to find things they haven’t done before. I never do things lightly when I’m working with another company. I like using the amazing capabilities that they have in order to produce something that I would like to create on my own.

Why are you using this particular shade of green for the Arsham Droplet? 
Originally, the color comes from what happens when you look at a piece of glass. When you look straight at the face of a piece of glass, you see directly through it; but when you turn it on its side you can see a color. It comes from the imperfections in the glass and has this greenish tone. This is where the color comes from. I think that it’s a very striking color that it is easily identifiable.
Hublot is known for its innovative approach to watchmaking, emphasizing being “First, Unique, Different.” How does this philosophy resonate with your own artistic principles? And how has it influenced your collaboration with the brand? 
In my own works, I tend to gravitate towards subjects, materials and elements that I personally appreciate. As a collector of objects of design, including furniture and architecture, I make things that I want to see exist in the world. I try to introduce objects that are first and foremost pleasing to me before I consider if it will please an audience, too. It is amazing to work with a maison like Hublot that focuses on something that has a particular function or particular purpose. As an artist, I make objects that have a purpose; but this purpose is not particularly defined. It’s like an open invitation.
