HORSE-BIT loafers took the fashion world by storm in the 1950s. The design was first popularized by Gucci’s sons as homage to their father’s fondness for equestrianism. A showcase of polished, timeless elegance, the shoe has never lost its charm, even many decades later. Its status as a fashion essential was solidified as notable fashion houses and brands have once again brought the design to the forefront of their collections. Unsurprisingly, Gucci has now featured the venerable horsebit loafer as an iconic staple in its new spring/summer 2024 collection, presenting the shoe with a revamped, slightly more modern appearance.
The horse-bit impact has also influenced Brunello Cucinelli, who infused the model into the brand’s recent spring collection, seamlessly blending the shoe’s classicism with its contemporary tailoring. Next up is Berluti, who played with the silhouette and details of the loafers to come up with a more refined model utilizing its sumptuous smooth leather. TOD’s, Jimmy Choo, Louis Vuitton and many other fashion houses have similarly adapted the basic loafer design, bringing a variety of selections for the style-driven gentleman
