From the runway to the after-party, Hermès brought its Men’s Winter 2024 collection to life in the heart of Tokyo.

Hermès, one of the most revered luxury maisons in the world, has long held a special place in Japan’s fashion and cultural landscape. With its rich history of artisanal craftsmanship and unwavering dedication to innovation, the brand resonates deeply with Japan’s appreciation for both tradition and modernity. And this unique synergy was on display last October, when Hermès Men’s Universe took over Ginza Maison Hermès for its first-ever re-show of the Men’s Winter 2024 collection.

The event also marked a significant moment for Hermès in Japan, where the brand’s Ginza flagship serves as both a cultural icon and a hub of artistic collaboration. For one night only, the historic building designed by architect Renzo Piano, with its striking glass-tile façade, became both the backdrop and stage for the fashion showcase.

The Men’s Winter 2024 collection by Véronique Nichanian, Artistic Director of the Men’s Universe was already lauded for its bold yet refined approach to contemporary menswear. It was then elevated further with the introduction of 13 exclusive new looks. Nichanian’s Tokyo edit expanded on the season’s themes of versatility, innovation and elegance. The designs blended timeless sophistication with bold, contemporary elements, offering garments that were reversible, transformable and superimposable to a variety of contexts. Shades of matte and shine were juxtaposed with supple fabrics and sharp silhouettes, creating a dialogue between classic tailoring and modern sensibilities. Highlighted pieces included neo-graphic jerseys, reimagined Prince of Wales check suits, and cutting-edge outerwear that elevated everyday functionality into an art form.

The atmosphere was made even more dynamic by the presence of Tokyo’s creative personalities. Show Kasamatsu, Junya Ishigami, Yuji Nishida, Hikaru Iwamoto, Takao Osawa, Hiroki Hasegawa, Shota Matsuda, Abdul Hakim Sani Brown and Atsushi Yanaka joined the models on the runway to showcase the collection’s spirit of individuality and dynamism. The show extended beyond the runway as the models flowed in and out of the boutique and onto the streets if Ginza, blurring the lines between the runway and the city. Tokyo’s neon lights provided the perfect contrast to the collection’s understated elegance, creating a moment that felt as timeless as it was contemporary.

But the night was far from over. Following the show, guests were guided next door to Ginza Sony Park for an afterparty. Upon entering the area, American record producer John Carroll Kirby greeted us with a showstopping performance, inviting guests to dance and enjoy the night. The postmodern building was transformed into a massive party venue, with each floor dedicated to a different aspect of the Hermès men’s identity. This multi-level experience seamlessly blended style with entertainment, offering guests a unique opportunity to interact with the brand in a completely immersive way.

The activities ranged from cutting-edge to quirky, ensuring there was something for everyone. On one floor, virtual reality (VR) stations allowed guests to explore Hermès’ world through a futuristic lens. There’s also a karaoke booth for guests to let loose and sing their hearts out, infusing the event with a joyful and celebratory energy. For those seeking a touch of whimsy, a mini-golf area on the rooftop provided a playful escape, merging recreation with design in a way that felt quintessentially Hermès.

The postmodern aesthetic of Ginza Sony Park provided the perfect setting for this innovative event. Known for its underground design and modular spaces, the venue allowed Hermès to fully realize its vision of blending high fashion with contemporary culture. Guests moved fluidly through the different levels, discovering new surprises at every turn. Meanwhile, the basement level was transformed into The Cheval Punk Club that pulsed with raw energy, contrasting sharply with the refinement of the maison’s earlier showcase.
An hour into the party, the guests were surprised with a special performance by iconic Japanese musician Haruomi Hosono. Guests gathered closer, some swaying to the rhythm, others simply soaking in the moment. It was the perfect way to cap off an evening that felt equals parts stylish and fun. All in all, the afterparty was more than just a celebration; it was an extension of Hermès’ storytelling. Once again, Hermès proves it knows how to put on a show, leaving guests with a sense of inspiration and a renewed appreciation for the artistry that defines the Hermès Men’s Universe.
