These past few months, the quiet luxury trend has become the key to transforming perfect everyday ensembles. The movement presents a counter to last season’s logo mania and too many loud pieces—pieces that won’t last a lifetime and can only stay for several seasons. As the embodiment of its opulent heritage, Hermès avoids seasonal approaches like those and instead prefers to stay under-covered to create an undeniably everlasting collection.

Away from the spotlight—Hermès only invited a few celebrities and doesn’t fancy having a brand ambassador—the Hermès Spring/Summer 2024 show highlights men’s creative director Véronique Nichanian’s seasonal appeal. Of particular note, she discovered the idea of quiet luxury and elevated it with the Maison’s meticulous craftsmanship. She further customized the collection to adapt to the weather.
The runway show started with an oversized mesh shirt paired with baggy nylon trousers. Lightweight shirts and loose jackets followed as models walked by with sneakers and leather sandals. Next up, Nichanian featured a pair of ultra-short shorts with a deconstructed shirt and, in some looks, layered them with outerwear pieces. Feather-light knit sweaters made of cashmere, which can also be layered with tank tops, also stood out.

Interestingly, Nichanian didn’t style the collection with heavy accessories. She instead featured layered necklaces and bracelets in palladium hardware on their own, while the classic belts were the only companions for the outfits. Some of Maison’s notable bags, such as the Birkin and Garden Party, were naturally showcased on the runway. Of the latter, she used the H canvas with Dancefloor au Faubourg prints.
About 50 looks were presented in pale and earthy palettes, making the whole collection look pleasing to the eye. Once again, Nichanian proves that you don’t need loud pieces to make a bold statement. Sometimes, understatement pieces work much better.
