Italian apparel manufacturer, Moncler, better known for its down jackets and sportswear, has teamed up with artsy fashion designer Greg Lauren to present a new Frankenstein-esque distorted style which was featured during Paris Fashion Week. Unlike your typical fashion presentation, the capsule collection amply named “Collide” was featured in what looked more like an art installation. Housed in the Marais Art Gallery, inside a giant tent made from Lauren’s signature hashed fabric aesthetic that he’s known for, the limited-edition collection of unisex pieces showcased Moncler’s familiar shiny nylon puffy jackets that had been dissected and mashed together with re-purposed, rehashed and patched material to create never-before-seen wearable works of art.

Greg Lauren, a Los Angeles-based artist, actor and since 2011 fashion designer, is no stranger to fashion weeks. Being the nephew of Ralph Lauren and son of Jerry, the executive vice president and creative director of men’s design at Ralph Lauren Corp. it was only natural for him to add his artful eye to fashion. Moncler has a long history of working with various fashion brands and designers, such as Off-White, Thom Browne, Junya Watanabe, and Pharrell Williams just to name a few.

The “Collide” collection will be available in Moncler boutiques and certain high-end department stores starting this September. Only three sizes of each style garment will be offered with a total of about 200 pieces set to hit retail altogether, and most pieces are expected to retail in the US$4,000 range.
