Two new references in the Code 11.59 by Audemars Piguet collection highlight the Swiss Manufacture’s expertise in crafting gem-set timepieces

Following its debut at the 2019 edition of the Salon International de la Haute Horlogerie (now Watches and Wonders), the Code 11.59 by Audemars Piguet collection quickly established itself as an expression of Haute Horlogerie. The collection appeals to a new generation of watch enthusiasts while maintaining a strong commitment to traditional watchmaking values.
The Code 11.59 by Audemars Piguet collection&#8217;s distinctive aesthetic code centers on the combination of an octagonal case middle—a nod to the Royal Oak’s iconic shape—with a round bezel and caseback. Beyond this fundamental design, the collection has also become an expression of Belle Horlogerie—beautiful watchmaking—both inside and out. There are Code 11.59 by Audemars Piguet with enamel dials, embossed dials and, of course, gem-set dials. These complex, and oftentimes beautiful, cases have housed a wide variety of movements since the inception of the collection, from simple calibers showing the hours, minutes and seconds, to high complications including tourbillons, minute repeaters and so on.
This year, the watchmaker has unveiled two new 38 mm models adorned with diamonds and colored gemstones.

These two new models—the first 38mm Code 11.59 by Audemars Piguet to feature extensive gem-setting—are bedecked with brilliant cut diamonds on its case middle, bezel, lugs and crown. The highlight of these pieces, however, is the dials, which present a medley of diamonds and colored sapphires in a mesmerizing play of light and contrasts.
Both dial varieties are crafted in gold and set with 134 diamonds and 399 sapphires weighing ~2.05 carats in total. These gemstones vary in size—from 0.85 to 0.90mm for the diamonds and from 0.90 to 1mm for the sapphires—and are set in a seemingly-irregular pattern that creates a harmonious aesthetic flow.

The first model in 18K white gold combines diamonds with sapphires in gradient shades of pink. A pearly gray alligator strap completes the elegant aesthetic and soft palette of colors.

The second model is crafted in 18K pink gold and marries diamonds with intense gradient blue sapphires. The dark blue inner bezel matches the color of the alligator strap, while the hour-markers and luminescent hands echo the tones of the pink gold case.

Sourcing the required quantity and variety of colored gemstones to create the perfect gradation of pink and blue is no small task. Meticulously setting the stones on the dial in a way that is both irregular yet harmonious is similarly demanding.
Driving these two new Code 11.19 by Audemars Piguet models is the elegant, selfwinding Calibre 5909. The date indication on this movement has been removed so as not to interrupt the flow of gemstones on the dial. Calibre 5909 is adorned with refined Haute Horlogerie decorations and a 22K pink gold oscillating weight, all of which can be admired through the sapphire caseback.
