The Dead or Alive series has always been equally known for its bevy of buxom female fighters as its intricate and over the top martial arts action. It was one of the first game where rich 3D graphics were used to render “virtual jiggling.” The latest game in the series, Dead or Alive 5, sees the curvy killers looking better than ever thanks to a new graphics engine. The fights are more explosive too, thanks to multi-tiered destructible stages that let you throw your enemy over a cliff or through a wall. Although the graphics are flashier, the fighting is just as accessible and intense as ever. Guest appearances from Akira Yuki and Sarah Bryant, both characters from Sega’s rival Virtua Fighters series, add an interesting ingredient to DOA’s usual mix of ninjas and femme fatales.
