From Watches & Wonders 2020: Roger Dubuis’ Excalibur Twofold

With a perfect illustration of Roger Dubuis’ expressive know-how, the Excalibur Twofold is even more striking in the dark

Since 1995, the Roger Dubuis manufacture is defined by a “no limit” approach to innovation, technical prowess, demanding savoir-faire and stylistic audacity. With myriad visionary designers who push the limits together with incredible watchmakers to design non-conformist grand complications, it’s safe to say that Roger Dubuis is constantly breaking codes and conventions to create the most expressive pieces of haute horlogerie.

Speaking of which, the Swiss-brand unveiled a new interpretation of its signature movement, the double flying tourbillon, at this year’s Watches & Wonders online platform. Titled The Excalibur Twofold, this incredible horological creation represents not one, but three world premieres.

Firstly, the Roger Dubuis uses a never-yet seen innovation: The bezel and the case for this watch is created in Mineral Composite Fiber (MCF)—an ultra-white composite material made of 99.95 percent silica—which is specifically developed by Roger Dubuis and processed with The Sheet Molding Compound (SMC) that brand’s engineers have mastered.

Second, for the first time ever, a patented process was developed to light up every angle of the upper plate of the movement that is composed of MCF. This means that the luminescence under low-light conditions lasts 60-percent than commonly-used luminescent material .

Last but not least, Roger Dubuis combines lightness and resistance for the strap. To be exact, the strap is made with a specific FKM luminescent rubber—based on a world-first technology called LumiSuperBiwiNova—that makes part of the strap glow in the dark, giving the Excalibur Twofold a distinct nocturnal signature .

Above all, as the watch bears the Poinçon de Genève mark and comes in limited edition of eight pieces, the brand once again relentlessly asserts its technical independence. Distinguished by this unleashed creativity, Roger Dubuis’ Excalibur Twofold is definitely the indisputable choice for an exclusive tribe of rebellious epicurean who want to enjoy life to the fullest.
