The “Blonde” singer announced the launch of his luxury brand Homer with a collection of high-end jewelry and silk scarves
Homer has been three year in the making and is the latest non-musical project from Fran Ocean. He has previously created magazines, designer sneakers and furniture.
Designed in New York and handmade in Italy, Homer has already unveiled its first collection, which includes a sleek selection of printed silk scarves and selection of high and fine jewelry pieces, made with 18K gold, recycled sterling silver, hand-painted enamel and American lab-grown diamonds.
The designs, which are said to be inspired by “childhood obsessions” and “heritage as a fantasy,” lean into a playful-yet-sophisticated demeanor. Some jewelry offerings opt for colorful iterations of child-like toys, while others appeal to refined eye with bands of gold and silver. Meanwhile, silk scarves employ the full color wheel, mixing contrasting hues atop a signature, graphic pattern.
Ocean did the catalog cover and photography for Homer; there is also campaign imagery by Tyrone Lebon, who is a frequent Ocean collaborator and the director of the music video for Ocean’s song “Nikes,” showcasing the 25 pieces of the collection. The catalog also teases an upcoming collaboration between Homer and Prada.
“Hand on my heart, this project kept my mind moving and my imagination turning throughout it all. All of my work now is dedicated to my family. Everything,” Oceanwrote on Instagram. “My hope is to make things that last, that are hard to destroy, set it in stone.”
Talking about the name Homer for his brand, Ocean told Financial Times: “Mostly because it’s five letters and the dotcom was available. But also because Homer is the father of history and history is meant to endure – the same as diamonds and gold – and I know Homer used papyrus, but I’ve always liked the idea of carving history into stone.”
Finally, Homer has just opened its own store at 70-74 Bowery, the home of New York Jewelers Exchange. Shopping is by appointment only, with occasional walk-up appointments available. To make an appointment, visit the brand’s official website on homer.com.
