Formal Outers in Tonal Styles Comprise Kenzo FW19 Range

Under then-creative director Humberto Leon and Carol Lim, Kenzo’s latest runway presentation during January’s Paris Fashion Week saw its Fall Winter 2019 collection burst in its trademark manor of eccentricity. But among the range of items, lies a range of hidden, simplistic gems—shying from the rest of the expression, yet still able to create an echo of a statement.

In its latest collection, Kenzo showcases its take on formal outer looks; coming in forms of vest and coats with subtle tonal color palette and a fresh approach to design, as well as combination play. The looks, collided with urban element and its Expedition capsule collection, projects the idea of how formal attires could be suitable for a more casual, everyday.

The collection was said to be inspired from Humberto Leon’s Chinese-Peruvian heritage as well as Peru with its hikers, tourists, natives and ethnic Chinese communities. These inspiration enabled Leon and Caroll Lim to pour interesting innovations towards the traditional pieces, like a tweak in collar and mixing and matching the look with a mountain-designed shoes and boots.

Subtle yet contrasting color and texture options make the looks easily distinguishable, which goes a long way as Kenzo’s statement that while they seek for minimalism, it still remains “Kenzo”. For the icing on the cake, accessories seem to not just compliment and complete the look, but items such as bag are necessary to achieve that fit presented during the presentation—or just to downplay what could be a serious look into something more playful.

All and all, the looks presented on the runway makes a modern, dynamic, and comfortable form of expression for Kenzo.
