Embracing the “Art of Fusion,” Hublot joins forces once again with Japanese artist Takashi Murakami, exemplifying the intersection of luxury watchmaking and contemporary art. With their fourth collaboration, the two creative powerhouses explore new ways of accessing contemporary art by launching 13 new NFTs and unique timepieces.
<h2>LUCKY NUMBER THIRTEEN</h2>
Hublot and Murakami take the “watches are works of art” idea to a new level by bridging traditional haute horlogerie with digital art. The collaboration rewards watch buyers with an exclusive approach, linking 13 flower motif NFTs to a limited edition of 13 new Classic Fusion watches launched earlier this year at Watches &amp; Wonders Geneva. The new watches were inspired by Japanese video games and TV shows from the 1970s, as well as the previously released Classic Fusion Takashi Murakami All Black.

Of these limited-edition watches, twelve are exclusively available online and accessible to owners of the specific NFTs from the previous collaboration, before being exchangeable on OpenSea, an NFT trading platform. Collectors have one year to acquire these NFTs through OpenSea. Once this this timeframe concludes in April 2024, only the collector who successfully purchases all twelve NFTs will be eligible to acquire the highly coveted 13th timepiece: The Classic Fusion Takashi Murakami Black Ceramic Rainbow watch. If no one person can acquire all 12 NFTs, this 13th watch will go up for auction, with proceeds going towards a charity.

Thanks to its ingenious ballbearing system developed by Hublot’s engineers, the petals create a dizzying spectacle of color as they spin on an axis with each movement. The kinetic effect of the petals creates a striking effect against the 45mm ceramic case. The center of the smiling flower is placed on top of the sapphire glass, adding a stunning three-dimensional effect. As the third watch collaboration between Hublot and Murakami, this launch proves the incredible collectability of this partnership.

<h2>THE ONE AND ONLY</h2>
The year has barely passed the halfway mark, but Hublot and Murakami have announced yet another collaboration, this time for the prestigious biannual charity auction, Only Watch. For this special occasion, the Swiss watchmaker presents its first central tourbillon timepiece, created specifically for this charitable cause.

The MP-15 Takashi Murakami Tourbillon Only Watch uniquely embodies the fusion of art and horological design, featuring a central tourbillon symbolizing Hublot’s commitment to haute horlogerie. Beyond that, the watch conveys a meaningful message, with the tourbillon serving as the watch’s beating heart and also representing the heart of the person who buys it at the auction in aid of research against Duchenne muscular dystrophy and the hearts of the children battling against the disease.
The watch’s round case, reminiscent of a child’s drawing of a daisy, symbolizes hope; while its distinctive construction and vibrant aesthetics draw inspiration from Murakami’s smiling flower. The timepiece beautifully captures Murakami’s imaginative spirit with twelve petals embellished with 444 gemstones and a fine laser engraving beneath the domed sapphire crystal. Furthermore, the MP-15 is made even more exclusive with the inclusion of a unique calligraphy piece, “Time of Rainbow,” personally crafted by the artist.

At Murakami’s request, Hublot took on the challenge of designing its first-ever central tourbillon. The design incorporates co-axial construction, allowing the cannon pinion and hour wheel to pivot around the tourbillon support. The central flying tourbillon appears suspended mid-air, with two hands passing underneath to indicate the hours and minutes. Aligned with twelve luminescent indices reflecting the colors of Hublot’s 2023 Only Watch edition, the watch maintains the precise proportions demanded by Murakami’s design. Additionally, the watch features two barrels, providing an impressive power reserve of up to 150 hours, and their placement on a single plane allows for an unobstructed view of the movement through the sapphire caseback.
