The great thing about unisex fragrances is their special appeal that knows no boundaries
Traditionally, fragrances have been marketed in gendered categories. For example, spicy smoky fragrances are for men while softer and floral variants are for women. But that hasn’t stopped anyone from following their personal references regardless of whether a particular fragrance is pour homme or pour femme. Everyone has the freedom of choice, anyway. Interestingly, more and more brands are embracing a gender-neutral approach when formulating fragrances. After all, fragrances are inherently subjective as it is designed to morph from person to person. So, today, we’ve rounded up five unisex fragrances—from classics to niche scents, but each with its own charisma—worth looking into:
Lalique Noir Premier Fleur Universelle 1900
The Noir Premiere collection highlights the milestones of Lalique history with contemporary fragrances that are inspired by the legacy of boldness and modernity. Fleur Universelle 1900 is a unisex fragrance that has a real resilience to it. The composition opens with cardamom, rum and pink pepper, then continues with cinnamon, myrrh and immortelle at the heart. The perfumer for this fragrance is Julie Massé and it is available as a 100ml eau de parfum.
Floris is one of the oldest English perfumery houses and is still a family-owned till today today. 1927 is a fragrance that is inspired by the blossoming of the jazz age and what was known as the Bright Young Things—an invented generation of aristocrats, middle class adventurers and bohemian artists who threw off their shackles and indulged in youth culture. The fragrance opens with decadent shimmering aldehydes balanced with a burst of zesty bergamot and hints of mandarin. These top notes are then accompanied by a voluptuous floral heart of violet, ylang ylang, and narcissus with mimosa, all adding depth and complexity. 1927 concludes with the rich, sensual base notes of musk, amber, patchouli and vanilla.
Escentric Molecules Escentric 01
The interesting thing about Escentric Molecules is that it celebrates the hyper-abstraction of Iso E Super. This is a molecule that hovers close to the skin to create an indefinable aura around the wearer. Escentric 01 is a unisex woody floral musk fragrance that focuses on Iso E Super, with the compound making up 65 percent of it. This scent contains lime peel, green jasmine bud, orris, balsamic notes and fresh musk.
Atkinsons The Other Side of Oud
There are a lot of choices of oud these days and they sometimes smell just the same. The Other Side of Oud reveals the unexpected facet of oud. The eau de parfum explores the contrast between the roasted and fresh facets of oud and is inspired by the typical cardamom coffee from the Middle East. The spicy fragrance is topped with cinnamon, fresh cardamom and juicy ginger while geranium and coffee flowers are revealed at the heart. The sillage is as vibrant as roasted coffee and as mellow as vanilla absolute.
Juliette Has A Gun Not A Perfume
This one is not really a perfume but fragrant Ambrox in a flacon. Ambrox is typically used as one of the base notes in a fragrance compositions, but here it serves in the leading role. Interesting, right? So, Not A Perfume is based on contradictions due to its composition iand it’s the only fragrance in the market without allergens. This unisex fragrance is available in characteristic flacons of 50ml and 100ml.
