<p>Where the worlds of auto racing and watchmaking intersect, the TAG Heuer Carrera enjoys an enviable position as the timepiece of choice for both actual racers and race enthusiasts, both on and off the track. A visionary model conceived by Jack Heuer himself and introduced in 1963, the Carrera would evolve into what is arguably TAG Heuer’s most refined sports chronographs. And now, a new 600-piece limited-edition release livens up the collection with a dash of red.</p>

<p>In short, the TAG Heuer Carrera Red Dial Limited Edition draws from the same aesthetics that made the original Heuer Carrera such an iconic model. For one, it retains the classic silhouette of the original Heuer Carrera reference 2447. The signature lugs and pushers are clearly there, but now presented in a contemporary 39mm case. And speaking of contemporary touches, the Carrera’s already superior readability has been further improved with the faceted, rhodium-plated hours and minutes hands, which are coated with Super-LumiNova for enhanced visibility under low-light conditions.</p>

<p>Of course, the color red has been part of TAG Heuer’s aesthetics—including on the Carrera—for decades, including on the brand’s logo and the red tachymeter scale on the early Heuer Carreras to, for instance, the bright red hands on the Heuer Monaco, a favorite of racing legend Ayrton Senna. This time, however, a deep crimson covers the entire dial, turning the watch into a definite statement piece.</p>
<p>And speaking of the dial, the surface is sunray brushed while the three chronograph counters are snailed. This design choice adds a new layer of contrast to the TAG Heuer Carrera Red Dial Limited Edition while also presenting an interesting play of light. In a nod to its heritage, the original Heuer logo and the Carrera name also take center stage on the dial.</p>

<p>Underneath this red tapestry is the watch’s beating heart, the Calibre Heuer 02. Interestingly, the column wheel and engravings on the oscillating mass have also been given touches of red. These details, along with the movement’s workings, are visible through the sapphire crystal caseback, which also bear the markings “ONE OF 600” and “Limited Edition.”</p>
