Fairmont Jakarta Announces Third ‘When Jakarta Meets’ Event

The “When Jakarta Meets” event series is set to return for the third year in a row with Japan announced as the highlighted destination theme. Fairmont Jakarta’s annual signature event will bring in guest chefs and mixologist from Japan to showcase their expertise in a series of events at the hotel from 18 to 22 September 2019.

The reason for choosing Japan as this year’s umbrella theme is due to 2019 being a special year for Japan. The country witnesses the change of its Emperor to the Emperor’s son to reign. Jakarta and Tokyo also celebrate its 30th anniversary this year. Finally, all eyes are now on Japan as they’re preparing to host next year’s 2020 Olympic.

“When Jakarta Meets Japan” will feature some of Japanese gastronomy’s most exciting people, which are Executive Chef of Senshu restaurant Tatsuya Sakamoto, Swissôtel Nankai’s Pastry Chef Yuki Nakamura, and Grand Mixologist slash Tokyo’s Mixology Salon Owner Shuzo Nagumo.

‘When Jakarta Meets’ series kicked off in 2017, which began with “When Jakarta Meets London” – a collaboration with its sister hotel The Savoy, London. The sequel then was held in 2018 with “When Jakarta Meets the USA”, which brought in chefs from Fairmont properties in California and Boston as well as a guest mixologist from a well-known bar in New York.

“When Jakarta Meets Japan” will feature five key events, which are:

1. Japanese Gastronomic Experience at VIEW

VIEW Restaurant will present the events opener with a Japanese Gastronomic Dinner experience by Chef Tatsuya Sakamoto from Senshu restaurant. Available from 18-21 September 2019, the 8-course dinner will include delicacies like Foie Gras Chawanmushi, Abalone with Liver Sauce and Black Truffle, as well as Kagoshima Beef Sirloin priced at IDR 2,000,000++/ person.

2. Japanese-inspired Afternoon Tea at Peacock Lounge

Guests could enjoy Chef Yuki Nakamura’s Japanese-inspired Afternoon Tea at the Peacock Lounge from 19-21 September 2019. Chef Nakamura’s creations will include Sakura Pana Cotta, Wasanbon Roll Cake, Matcha Tiramisu, Yuzu Tart, and Mousse with Matsutake Mushroom and Chocolate Milk as well as the Mitarashi Dango, available at IDR 588,000++ per set which includes two beverage of coffee or tea.

3. Tokyo’s Grand Mixologist Bar Takeover at Barong Bar

Grand Mixologist Shuzo Nagumo from the MIXOLOGY SALON in Tokyo, Japan will be taking over the Barong Bar for one night only on 19 September 2019. Mixology Salon joint is considered as one of Asia’s best bars—which won him Asia’s 50 Best Bars among many accolades—and naturally one of Tokyo’s most popular spots. On his bar takeover, he’ll be presenting his Tokyo joint’s famous award-winning “tea tale” cocktails; a sequence of cocktail made with high quality Japanese green tea leaves, available at IDR 150,000++/glass or IDR 500,000++ for 2-hour free-flow.

4. Night In Tokyo Party at K22 Bar

The must-attend highlight event of “When Jakarta Meets Japan” will be the Night in Tokyo party at K22 Bar on the 20 September 2019. The party will be guided by Asia’s Next Top Model finalist Jesslyn Lim, and will feature live performance from Hiroaki Kato, dancers, and the Taiko group. DJ sisters Yasmin and Freya are also set to provide beats to take the night away. In case any guests missed Shuzo Nagumo’s Barong Bar takeover, the award-winning grand mixologist will be attending the bar to supply the party with his signature cocktails for the party. Entrance fee will be at IDR 300,000 nett per person.

5. Taste of Japan Sunday Brunch at Spectrum

The last event of the series will see a collaboration of the Japanese guest chef, pastry chef and mixologist in the Taste of Japan Sunday Brunch, at Spectrum on 22 September 2019. The buffet spread will feature extensive Japanese dishes from different region like Kyoto, Nagasaki, Hokkaido and Okinawa as well as exciting desserts spread like Japanese Strawberry Shortcake, Black Sesame Pudding, Japanese Sweet Dumplings, Sweet Potato Tart, Warabimochi and Dorayaki. Shuzo on the other hand will be creating cocktail that will complement the brunch. The Taste of Japan Sunday Brunch will be available to guest at IDR688,000++ per person, including a welcome mocktail.
