A classically trained actor who has proven himself in a variety of roles, it appears Malcolm Goodwin is here to stay. Having already scored roles in movies such as “American Gangster” and “The Lazarus Project,” New Yorker Goodwin continues to push himself across the board. Though perhaps best known for his portrayal of street hustler Shea in crime drama “Breakout Kings,” he’s also appeared in &#8220;House of Cards,&#8221; &#8220;True Blood,&#8221; &#8220;Elementary&#8221; and &#8220;Blue Bloods.&#8221; However, upcoming comic book-based zombie thriller series &#8220;iZOMBIE&#8221; looks set to allow Goodwin to showcase his full range. A filmmaker alongside his thespian exploits, this young actor is one dedicated to his craft.
DA MAN: Describe your character Shea in “Breakout Kings”?
Malcolm Goodwin: Shea is a business man/hustler who grew up in the ghettos of New York City. His unique observation skills allow him to take over and control many illegal businesses in his neighborhood. He smuggles guns, narcotics, and runs many underground rackets, which eventually spread throughout the East Coast. He’s never too high or low and approaches everything with a sense of caution and ease. He’s very measured and always remains guarded.
DA: Any upcoming projects?
MG: Yes. I’ll be starring in the new CW show entitled “iZOMBIE,” which is based on the DC/Vertigo comic of the same name. I play the role of Detective Clive Babineaux, a rookie homicide detective who is desperate to make his first arrest. We’re currently shooting 13 episodes in Vancouver that will air early next year. I also just got distribution for two feature films I directed entitled &#8220;Pass The Light&#8221; and &#8220;Construction,&#8221; which will hit theaters early next year.
DA: The most important lesson you learned at acting school?
MG: The most important lesson I learned from acting school was to be fearless in letting characters live through me in an honest way; to not be afraid to make myself, my feelings, and my experiences valid when developing a character.

DA: Your role model in life?
MG: I don’t have a role model because I’ve been influenced and raised by a village of incredible people, including aunts, uncles, cousins, my parents, siblings, friends, classmates and, most importantly, teachers. I model the role I play in life after so many people who have been important influences for me thus far.
DA: Your most prized possession?
MG: My most prized possession is my college degree. I’m still paying for it. The time and sacrifices I made to graduate college will always stand as one of my greatest accomplishments being where I’m from.
DA: The best moment of your life?
MG: The best moment of my life was surviving a near death experience and by God’s will, having another stab at life. I was young, but wise enough to know that I was given another chance to live and that I wasn’t going to take a moment in life for granted thereafter. I’m always humbled and gracious for each day I have the opportunity to breathe and experience the world around me.

MG: Why not me…

MG: Friendship is selfless love and support.
DA: Your passion outside of acting?
MG: Filmmaking.

MG: I’m a home body, so life at home.
DA: Your favorite city?
MG: New York, New York.
DA: Something few people know about you?
MG: I can be a very shy person off set, but never when on stage or in front of the camera.
DA: Smart or casual clothing?
MG: Casual.
DA: Favorite book?
MG: A People’s History of The United States by Howard Zinn.
DA: When are you most content?
MG: I confess—it’s when all of my bills are paid. [Laughs]
