NEW GIRL IN TOWN. If you’re a serious Jakarta foodie, you’re likely familiar with Publico. Today, this famous bistro and bar is no more, and its place you can find the demure Ms. Choo (Jl. Senopati Raya No. 65; +62 21 5296 4960; mschoo.com)
While the name might suggest something along the lines of a ’20s-styled Hong Kong eatery, Ms. Choo offers an impressive spread of Pan-Asian cuisine—and the marriage of cultures certainly shows. Take the Crispy Duck with Mandarin Nam Jim Jaew and Thai Basil, for example: It looks like a traditional Chinese dish, the seasoning is unmistakably Thai, but it also has hints of Vietnamese flavors. Rounding up the menu is a solid list of sweet desserts—always spare a bit of room for the Nutella-filled sesame balls—and a dreamy selection of cocktails.
