ON THE DOWN LOW. Without any real signage, most people would pass the Victorian-styled cage that juts out from The East building without realizing it was the entrance of Bau-Haus 1933 (Jl. Dr Ide Anak Agung Gde Agung, Mega Kuningan, Kav. E3.2 No.1, Jakarta; +62 21 2952 7173; www.bauhausjakarta.com).
But walk down the stairs, and you’ll soon realize the inconspicuous entrance goes hand in hand with the joint’s 1920s speakeasy concept. The creative heads behind Jakarta’s Lucy in the Sky come together to deliver a space that seamlessly blends the hip of a club, the unwind of a bar and the satisfaction of good dining. Their food menu includes an array of unconventional international cuisine, such as Ramen Carbonara and Bulgogi Fried Rice, while their extensive drinks selection features rare single malts, aperitifs, premium vodkas and gins. Furthermore, Bau-Haus satisfyingly displays a mix of Victorian and European design elements throughout its retro interior.
