Drake, Lizzo, and more artists to listen to this month

Our bi-monthly round-up of must-listen albums, EPs and singles…

HONESTLY, NEVERMIND – Drake

The mighty Aubrey Drake Graham is back with his surprise seventh studio album titled “Honestly, Nevermind.” The Canadian superstar singer uniquely dropped his latest full-length album just a day after announcing it to the world on his Instagram account. The 14-track album features songs titled “Overdrive,” “Tie That Binds” and “Currents.” However it only features one guest, 21 Savage, in “Jimmy Cooks.” In line with the personal message that he sent to his followers via Apple Music when the album was released, it appears that Drake created “Honestly, Nevermind” as an effort to push himself creatively amid a trying period in his personal life.

RENAISSANCE – Beyoncé

Global superstar Beyoncé announces her seventh studio album titled “Renaissance.” This record features 16 songs in total with new numbers like “I’m That Girl,” “Cozy,” “Alien Superstar,” “Cuff It” and “America Has a Problem,” including the lead single “Break My Soul” which is a definite summer dance song. Queen Bey notably said that creating this album allowed her to find escape during a scary time for the world. And with a variety of songs that embrace disco and dance to release the wiggle inside of us, it was a beautiful journey of exploration.

MERCURY – ACT 2 – Imagine Dragons

“Mercury – Act 2” is the new album from Grammy Award-winning, multi-Platinum band Imagine Dragons. Uniquely, the sixth studio album by
the American pop rock band serves as a sequel to the band’s 2021 album “Mercury – Act 1.” Thematically, “Mercury – Act 1” pretty much addresses death and grieving, while “Mercury – Act 2” focuses on the “post- death” experience and unpacks the complicated task of trying to move forward. For instance, as a spirited examination of life and death, the song “Bones” explodes with an infectious chorus that celebrates the intangible spark that ignites our beings.

SPECIAL – Lizzo

Lizzo is now set to create her biggest, boldest and brightest revolution thus far with her massively anticipated album called “Special.” The 12 tracks in the new album feel like a mission to promote empowerment and positivity. Case in point: The confident, empowering track “About Damn Time” gives her fans a funky and truly anthemic new single. All in all, the three times Grammy Award- winning singer, songwriter, rapper, actress and fashion entrepreneur has shifted the sound, soul and spirit of popular music and culture in her own way.
