For the Fall 2020 Dior men collection, Dior and the Artistic Director Kim Jones reveal the first-ever collaboration between the iconic footwear brand and a French haute couture house.
Mark our word: the limited-edition Air Jordan 1 High OG Dior aka #DIORJORDAN is going to be one of 2020’s most-coveted shoes.
“I love mixing together different worlds, different ideas – Jordan Brand and Dior are both emblematic of absolute excellence in their fields. To bring them together in this special collaboration is to propose something exciting and truly new,” states Kim Jones, Artistic Director of Dior men’s collections.
Originally created for NBA star Michael Jordan in 1985, the Air Jordan 1 is a modern classic. To coincide with the 35th anniversary of the silhouette and celebrate the first Dior men’s show in the United States, Dior and Jordan Brand joined forces to create a new, limited-edition Air Jordan 1 High OG. The design underscores both the timeless appeal of the shoe itself and Dior’s emblematic style, forever born of l’air du temps, the spirit of the moment.
With this partnership, different cultures — American and French, haute couture and high-performance sportswear — come together, unified and blended into a hybrid with a ‘new look’. Jordan Brand’s footprint of innovation and product excellence is echoed in the élan of Dior men’s Paris Ateliers.
“Every collaboration we do starts from a genuine connection and desire to expand the dimensions of each brand through creativity and design innovation. Our partnership with Dior will offer a new look in basketball style and blend high-end streetwear with luxury fashion,” says Martin Lotti, Jordan Brand VP of Design. “We will pay homage to both brands’ rich iconography and draw inspiration from our heritage.”
Made in Italy to superlative luxury standards, the silhouette is crafted from the finest calf-leather that characterizes Dior leather goods, edge-painted and in the shade known evocatively as Dior Grey since the Maison’s founding, in 1947. A remix of the iconic Jumpman Wings logo is embossed on the upper and features the words “AIR DIOR”, representing this cross-cultural collaboration. The Nike Swoosh is filled out with the Dior Oblique motif, simultaneously embodying the exceptional savoir-faire of two leading brands. A half-sized version of the emblematic Dior Oblique motif is also laser-etched into the insoles.
The limited-edition Air Jordan 1 High OG Dior sneaker will be available in April 2020 in selected Dior stores around the world. This unique collaboration prolongs the steadfast and passionate ties that have united Dior and American culture since the House was born, in 1947.
