Kim Jones dived into the past of Dior, revealing how the reign of Yves Saint Laurent becomes his main influence for this collection
For fashion designers, digging into the past archives may seem like finding a new treasure. That is exactly what Kim Jones did before creating his latest collection for Dior Men winter 2023. A collection which he refers to as a connection between the past, present and future as he traveled back to the spring 1958 when Yves Saint Laurent was just appointed to become the successor of Christian Dior.
Though Yves Saint Laurent worked for the Maison only for a short period of time, his creative vision has brought Dior into a new direction. And years after, his influence gives Kim Jones inspirations to work on, bringing the clean cut, pale colors and the infamous trapeze line into the new collection.
We can see the slightly oversized jackets and coats in minimalist cut streaming down the runway while the cinematic background playing Robert Pattinson and Gwendoline Christie dialogue as the grand setup. It is crystal clear that Jones also became infatuated with culottes which he designed in A-line shape for this collection. He also added a drawstring detail on the hemline so that the pair can be transformed into another form of pants. A hybridized sweater that feature an open-arm cut accentuated with zipper is another highlight from the show, along with the bags that echoes Yves Saint Laurent’s modern take with its constructed lines and elegant materials.
Joining in the show was the newly-appointed brand ambassador Jimin of BTS, J-Hope of BTS, Robert Pattinson, Eddie Redmayne, David Beckham and Cruz Beckham. All wearing the latest vision of Kim Jones that once again connects in multiple eras in one pack of modernity.
