DAMAN: Hi Eoin, great to have you with us again. It’s been an exciting few years in your career. How are you feeling about this current chapter of your life—both personally and professionally?
Eoin Macken: I was given some wise advice when I was in college: to always embrace every stage of life as the best time you’re going to have, and I try to live by that. I’ve been having a blast on all fronts and always try to, no matter what!

DA: Let’s talk about “Ransom Canyon.” How did this project come to you, and what was your first reaction to the script and the character of Davis Collins?
EM: I was fortunate that they reached out to me for Davis—the team was pretty confident I was right for the character, so I trusted their judgment. Once I dug into the role, I really appreciated how complex he was, with so many layers, which made him fun to explore.
DA: Davis is described as ambitious, well-educated, and emotionally guarded. How did you prepare to step into his mindset?
EM: I trusted the writing and let it guide me.

DA: He also plays a bit of a romantic rival in the series. How did you build that tension with your co-stars, especially in such an emotionally driven story?
EM: It was easy with Josh [Duhamel] because he’s a fantastic performer and is very generous. We fell into sync quickly and enjoyed playing off each other.
DA: The show is set in Texas Hill Country, with a distinctly Western atmosphere. Did working in that environment influence your performance or perspective?
EM: Absolutely! The character embodies a lot of that environment, so it naturally shaped his perspective and way of being.

DA: This series blends romance, drama, and legacy. What do you think “Ransom Canyon” ultimately says about family and ambition?
EM: That family is the most important thing—and that ambition can tear a family apart.
DA: Did you prepare for the role in any special way—like learning how to ride, doing ranch work or understanding the Texan lifestyle?
EM: We did a full cowboy camp to immerse ourselves in the rancher lifestyle. It was a blast!

DA: From “Merlin” to “The Night Shift” and now “Ransom Canyon,” you’ve portrayed a wide range of characters. What do you look for when choosing your next project?
EM: I look for honesty in the character and the choices he makes, as well as the writer’s voice and the director’s vision.
DA: You’ve directed and written films as well.Has your behind-the-camera experiences influence your acting? If so, how?
EM: It definitely does because it makes me appreciate all the work that goes into a production and how crucial everyone in every department is. As an actor, you’re just one cog in a massive production.

DA: When playing characters with strong emotional undercurrents, how do you ground those feelings in something real?
EM: That’s tricky—I just try to immerse myself in the character’s thoughts and let it connect naturally.

DA: Is there a genre you haven’t tackled yet that you’re curious about—like a historical epic, thriller, or more sci-fi?
EM: I don’t think I’ll ever get enough of sci-fi or fantasy!
DA: Would you be interested in directing a feature again sometime soon—or maybe an episode of a series you’re acting in?
EM: Definitely. We had a film planned for this spring, but it didn’t quite come together, which was disappointing. Still, I have three or four projects still in development, including one I’m really excited about with another cast member from “Ransom Canyon.”

DA: And congratulations on becoming a father! How has this new chapter changed your perspective—personally and creatively?
EM: [Laughs] Thank you! It’s been a wild ride but it’s a lot of fun. I think it definitely makes you become more patient and attuned to a wider range of emotions.
DA: With so many roles—actor, director, writer and now parent—how do you find balance these days?
EM: Chocolate and wine.

DA: Are there any quiet, everyday moments that have surprised you or left a lasting impression during this time of transition?
EM: That calm at dawn, just before the birds start singing—it’s incredibly peaceful. Then, of course, the chaos kicks in!
DA: What’s a dream story or subject you’ve been sitting on that you’d love to bring to life one day?
EM: I’m working on a novel about the Irish mythological figure Cú Chulainn, and I’m really hoping to bring that to life eventually.

DA: You’ve always emphasized the power of storytelling. What kind of impact do you hope your work has on audiences today?
EM: I hope they enjoy it first and foremost. Especially with my novels, I’d love for people to connect emotionally and find something in the characters’ journeys that resonates.
DA: Looking back at your journey so far, what advice would you give your younger self when he was just starting out in this industry?
EM: Be more patient with your writing—don’t rush it.

DA: Finally, is there something you’re currently excited about—professionally, personally or creatively—that fans might not know about yet?
EM: I have a few projects bubbling on the surface, but I can’t say much until they’re set—it’s bad luck otherwise! But they’re definitely fun ones.
