The Road to Precision: TUDOR’s Pelagos FXD Chrono “Yellow” and its cycling-inspired design

A detailed overview of the Pelagos FXD Chrono “Yellow”

There’s something poetic about Fabian Cancellara’s return to France. Once a dominant force on two wheels, the Swiss cycling legend now returns not as a competitor but as a team owner—proof that excellence evolves. To mark this new chapter, TUDOR has unveiled a fitting tribute: the Pelagos FXD Chrono “Yellow,” a high-performance chronograph built in the spirit of endurance, speed and calculated risk. Only 300 pieces will ever exist. One of them, naturally, is already on Cancellara’s wrist.

Bold, focused and engineered for the road, the Pelagos FXD Chrono “Yellow” is more than a commemorative timepiece but a definite statement of intent. As much a technical instrument as it is a nod to Cancellara’s days in the coveted yellow jersey, this watch blends cycling-specific functionality with TUDOR’s uncompromising tool-watch identity. As can be expected, number 7, Cancellara’s racing number, is already spoken for. The rest will likely disappear into private collections before most fans can get a glimpse.

At first glance, the watch wears its purpose clearly. A 43mm matte black carbon composite case ensures maximum strength at minimal weight, crucial for cyclists looking to shave off every unnecessary gram. Fixed strap bars and a titanium screw-down crown underscore its toughness, while titanium pushers provide direct-action responsiveness. With 100 meters of water resistance, the FXD Chrono “Yellow” is more than capable of handling harsh conditions on and off the road.

But the real magic lies in its cycling-optimized functionality. Most chronographs are built for motorsport, with tachymeters calibrated for speeds far higher than human-powered travel. TUDOR has reengineered the scale specifically for cycling, wrapping it around the rehaut in a spiral configuration that matches real-world cadence, thus allowing riders to quickly gauge average speeds without the mental math. This is a small but meaningful shift for anyone who has endured the punishing rhythm of competitive racing.

The dial and case design of TUDOR’s Pelagos FXD Chrono “Yellow”

The dial reflects this performance-first mindset. Matte black with yellow accents—echoing the colors of elite cycling—sets a focused tone. Luminescent ceramic composite hour markers and TUDOR’s signature “Snowflake” hands ensure optimal visibility, even in low-light riding conditions. It’s a design that doesn’t just look sharp—it functions under pressure.

The strap plays a critical role as well. Woven in France by Julien Faure on century-old Jacquard looms, the one-piece technical fabric strap features a central yellow stripe that mirrors the watch’s aesthetic. Lightweight, breathable and secure, it’s designed to feel natural whether on a climb, descent or recovery rides.

Beneath the surface of this new Pelagos lies the Manufacture Caliber MT5813, a COSC-certified automatic chronograph movement developed in collaboration with Breitling and customized by TUDOR. With a 70-hour power reserve, column-wheel mechanism, vertical clutch and anti-magnetic silicon balance spring, it delivers professional-grade performance with proven reliability. It’s the kind of movement you’d expect in a serious chronograph: refined, robust and ready to race.

This launch isn’t just about a watch embodies TUDOR’s “Born to Dare” philosophy—pushing boundaries, rethinking categories and honoring personal evolution. By celebrating Cancellara’s shift from rider to visionary team leader, TUDOR also reaffirms the relevance of analog craft in a digital age. A cycling-specific chronograph may seem niche, but it speaks volumes about precision, preparation and pride in one’s tools.

The Pelagos FXD Chrono “Yellow” may be limited in number, but its symbolism runs deep. It captures the intersection of elite sport and horological excellence, where performance is measured in seconds but remembered in legacy. With this release, TUDOR isn’t just marking time—it’s riding alongside it.
