The hardiest titanium watches from 2023

Lightweight, durable corrosion-resistant, titanium is the perfect metal to create cool, sleek and modern-looking high end timepieces

Rolex

CONCEIVED WITH the challenging demands of competitive sailing in mind, Rolex’ Oyster Perpetual YachtMaster 42 is now introduced in RLX titanium, which is known for being particularly strong and lightweight. Like all Rolex watches crafted in this grade 5 titanium alloy, the new Yacht-Master 42 notably features a technical satin finish with a visible grain. All in all, however, the design remains faithful to the aesthetics of the original model which was first introduced back in 2019. Performance-wise, the newest Oyster Perpetual Yacht-Master 42 is driven by the Calibre 3235 and, of course, carries the Superlative Chronometer certification.

TUDOR

FOR DECADES, TUDOR has supplied diving watches to the U.S. Navy. Today, this legacy lives on in the Pelagos FXD. As a timepiece crafted with elite naval divers in mind, the Pelagos FXD puts extra emphasis on reliability and robustness. For one, the watch foregoes traditional spring bars for a set of sturdy fixed strap bars that are directly machined into the main body of the titanium case. Furthermore, the Pelagos FXD is entirely satin-brushed to limit reflections—as befitting of a watch inspired by actual military models. It also features a unidirectional bezel with a 60-minute-graduated ceramic insert which, in turn, flanks a matt black dial featuring TUDOR’s signature “Snowflake” hands.

Zenith

AS A REIMAGINING of the first DEFY silhouette, the Zenith DEFY Revival Shadow showcases a decidedly muted and monolithic look, as opposed to the brightly-polished, satin-brushed surfaces of its predecessor from 1969. The case of this DEFY Revival Shadow is crafted in titanium and is microblasted to achieve a matt finish. Also in contrast to its predecessor, this 2023 model is matte black instead of featuring vibrant colors in striking gradients. And powering the DEFY Revival Shadow is the automatic Elite 670 manufacture movement which beats at a frequency of 4Hz and has a power reserve of up to 50 hours. It is essentially a modern creation in a vintage silhouette.

Chopard

CHOPARD’S ALPINE Eagle watches are usually made of Lucent Steel, ethical gold or a combination of the two; the Alpine Eagle Cadence 8HF, however, is made entirely in titanium—which is even lighter than Lucent Steel and darker in tone. Perhaps more importantly, this watch is the second high-frequency model in the Alpine Eagle collection, featuring the chronometer-certified Chopard Calibre 01.12-C movement that beats at a frequency of 8 Hertz—twice as fast as a standard automatic movement. This gives the movement added resiliency to physical impact and allows the watch to maintain exceptional accuracy no matter what kind of shocks it goes through day by day.
