A new monochromatic blue finish brings fresh character to Bvlgari’s record-setting Octo Finissimo Perpetual Calendar without compromising its ultra-thin engineering

Since its debut more than a decade ago, Bvlgari’s Octo Finissimo collection has become a benchmark for contemporary watchmaking. Defined by its architectural design and relentless pursuit of ultra-thin engineering, the line has amassed 10 world records, proving that technical ambition and distinctive aesthetics can coexist in remarkable fashion. Now, Bvlgari adds another chapter to that story with a new monochromatic blue interpretation of the Octo Finissimo Perpetual Calendar.
First introduced in 2021, the Octo Finissimo Perpetual Calendar immediately made headlines by becoming the world’s thinnest perpetual calendar wristwatch. Its manufacture Caliber BVL 305 measures just 2.75 mm thick, an extraordinary achievement considering the complexity of the complication. That same year, the watch earned the prestigious Aiguille d’Or, the highest distinction at the Grand Prix d’Horlogerie de Genève. While the latest release preserves every bit of that record-setting engineering, it shifts the conversation toward color and character.

For the first time, the Octo Finissimo Perpetual Calendar arrives in a monochromatic blue execution. The familiar 40 mm case remains crafted from sandblasted titanium and measures just 5.8 mm thick, now finished with a blue PVD treatment that extends across the case and dial. Complementing the deep blue surface are grey rhodium-plated hands and silvered indexes, creating a subtle contrast that keeps the calendar displays clear without disrupting the watch’s minimalist aesthetic. A polished stainless-steel crown with a black ceramic insert and a matching blue alligator leather strap complete the composition.

The restrained palette gives the watch a noticeably different personality from earlier editions. Rather than emphasizing the industrial character often associated with titanium, the blue finish introduces greater visual depth while preserving the Octo Finissimo’s unmistakable geometric identity. It feels equally at home beneath the cuff of a tailored jacket as it does paired with more relaxed contemporary dressing, reflecting the versatility that has become one of the collection’s defining strengths.

Behind the understated exterior is one of modern watchmaking’s most impressive mechanical accomplishments. The self-winding BVL 305 combines hours, minutes, a retrograde date, day, month and leap-year indication within its exceptionally slim profile, while offering a 60-hour power reserve. More importantly, the perpetual calendar automatically accounts for the varying lengths of each month as well as leap years, requiring no manual adjustment until the year 2100 under normal operation.

The new release also reinforces what has made the Octo Finissimo collection so influential since the first Octo Finissimo Tourbillon Manual established the brand’s inaugural ultra-thin world record in 2014. Rather than treating thinness as a technical exercise alone, Bvlgari has consistently used it as a foundation for a distinctive design language, one where proportion, comfort and mechanical innovation are inseparable. From record-breaking tourbillons to minute repeaters and perpetual calendars, each milestone has expanded the possibilities of ultra-thin watchmaking without sacrificing everyday wearability.
With this latest blue titanium edition, Bvlgari demonstrates that innovation is not always about introducing an entirely new complication. Sometimes, giving an award-winning watch a fresh visual identity is enough to reveal another side of its enduring appeal. The Octo Finissimo Perpetual Calendar remains one of contemporary haute horlogerie’s defining achievements, now presented with a monochromatic elegance that feels every bit as modern as the engineering beneath its dial.
