Inspired from by the Type 20, Breguet’s famous aviation chronograph of the 1950s, this limited edition marks a new chapter in the history of this iconic aviation chronograph
While the House of Breguet is primarily known for its historical influences on watchmaking, the name Breguet is also associated with the world of aviation. For instance, Breguet made quite a name for itself with the Type XX aviation chronographs. Inspired by this archival model, Breguet adds to its remarkable collection this year with a new, sporty and modern model, titled the Type XXI 3815 chronograph. In short, this new model becomes a contemporary counterpart to the previous vintage style edition, the Type XXI 3817, which was unveiled back in 2016.
Aesthetically, the new model features a 42mm case made of titanium, a metal known for its anti-corrosive properties and lightness. Aside to that, the watch has a bidirectional bezel—also made of titanium—which is fitted with a contrasting black lacquered 60-minute scale, enhancing the contemporary look of this edition.
Up front, the Type XXI 3815 chronograph presents a deep black dial with a sunburst finish. The modern character and sporty spirit of the dial are further accentuated by the use of vivid colors. Speaking of which, the watch is available with green or orange numerals, markers as well as hands, and all of them are filled with orange luminescent material.
Interestingly, this new dial also features a display with only two counters, with a 24-hour indicator placed at 3 o’clock, and the small seconds at 9 o’clock. On top of that, it also comes with the flyback chronograph function with central minute register, a new precision minute track and a date at 6 o’clock that complete this contemporary display.
Beneath the dial, the sapphire crystal case-back reveals the mechanical self-winding movement in all its detailed glory, as well as a gold rotor with a specific finish for this edition.
Sporty in style and function, Breguet’s Type XXI 3815 chronograph is produced in a limited edition of 250 pieces per color, and it’s completed with a calfskin leather strap with stitching that echoes the color of the markers and hands on the dial.
