TAG Heuer and Porsche partner up once again to create a timepiece celebrating the racing universe; this time with a bold dash of orange
Swiss watch brand TAG Heuer and German automobile manufacturer Porsche have enjoyed a long and colorful relationship as their respective histories started intertwining since the 1950s. In 2021, this bond came to the forefront as the two giants unveiled their first collaborative watch, TAG Heuer Carrera Porsche Chronograph. The second chapter of this partnership came out in 2022 with the TAG Heuer Carrera x Porsche Limited Edition, followed by in the same year by a Porsche edition of the TAG Heuer Connected Calibre E4 as well as two TAG Heuer Carrera x Porsche Limited Editions celebrating the Porsche 911 Carrera RS 2.7’s 50th anniversary.
This year, the story continues with a new and colorful novelty: the TAG Heuer Carrera Chronograph x Porsche Orange Racing.
“With such a strong heritage shared with Porsche in the racing field, we are excited to present a new watch that embodies every aspect of this incredible sport. It is also a nod to the history shared by TAG Heuer and Porsche—a history on which we continue to build,” TAG Heuer CEO Frédéric Arnault said in a statement. “Together, with their expertise and creativity, our teams have created a bold and powerful timepiece encased in a sporty yet elegant design.”
Robert Ader, Chief Marketing Officer at Porsche AG, meanwhile, noted that: “The TAG Heuer Carrera Chronograph x Porsche Orange Racing is all about the racing universe and represents the high performance and thrill of speed, values that we share deeply with TAG Heuer, and a fine example of our common mindset as we continue our exciting journey as partners.”
Taking its design cues from the TAG Heuer Carrera Sport Chronograph and following up on the aforementioned TAG Heuer Carrera x Porsche Limited Edition, the TAG Heuer Carrera Chronograph x Porsche Orange Racing is powered by the in-house Calibre Heuer 02 automatic movement. As is now “tradition” for TAG Heuer x Porsche collaborations, this new watch features a custom-designed oscillating weight that pays homage to Porsche’s steering wheels. The oscillating weight along with other elements of the movement such as the column wheel are, of course, visible through the sapphire crystal caseback. And, as the name of the watch implies, they feature touches of black and orange.
The orange-and-black combination presents a dynamic and vibrant reference to the world of racing—a passion shared by both TAG Heuer and Porsche. The colorway is also perfectly in line with Porsche’s aesthetics. Black, meanwhile, offers the perfect contrast to the fiery orange, and the interplay between the two hues is prominently on display on the 44mm stainless steel case, vertical brushed dial and also the strap.
Moving from the edges of the watch we have the black ceramic tachymeter fixed bezel with PORSCHE lettering in orange. There’s also the highly-visible orange lacquered steel crown. The black dial is outlined in orange and so are the three black “azuré” sub-dials at 3, 6 and 9 o’clock. And then there’s the strap, which is made in carbon-like black calfskin leather with an orange back lining and orange stitching—which, in turn, is crafted to resemble the seat upholstery on Porsche cars.
Last but not least, the TAG Heuer Carrera Chronograph x Porsche Orange Racing is presented in special co-branded packaging in black with orange touches.
It’s certainly exciting to see how the TAG Heuer x Porsche partnership continues to grow and evolve, as evident in the myriad ways that the two brands find new ways to present their shared history and aesthetics through collaborative timepieces. In that way, the TAG Heuer Carrera Chronograph x Porsche Orange Racing is a perfect example of how the former’s watchmaking know-how and the latter’s iconic visuals can seamlessly merge in a design that celebrates speed in such a colorful way.
