Bell &amp; Ross’ iconic BR 03 continues to evolve with striking new proportions and a medley of stylish new colors
Within the realm of aviation watches, Bell &amp; Ross has been a leading name for nearly three decades. The brand’s designs are distinctly inspired by aircraft instruments, not just in terms of aesthetics and legibility, but also precision and reliability. And these qualities are perhaps best encapsulated in Bell &amp; Ross’ storied BR 03 collection.

<h2>SIZE MATTERS</h2>
The journey of Bell &amp; Ross began in 1994, but the cornerstone of the brand—the vaunted BR 01—was born in 2005. The design of the watch was based on the idea of “a circle within a square, held by four screws” that followed the silhouette of cockpit clocks. The highly-recognizable shape was further emphasized by the imposing 46mm case. The following year, a more accessible 42mm model was introduced. For 2023, the BR 03 collection welcomed a new range of 41mm models.

The change might sound trivial, in the world of watchmaking, every millimeter counts. Altering case sizes is a particularly serious matter, which is why in most cases, watchmakers prefer to start from scratch rather than rework iconic designs.
Bruno Belamich, Bell &amp; Ross’ co-founder and Creative Director, elaborated on the brand’s approach: “With the new BR 03, we modified the proportions of the collection by respecting its canons. Our goal was to preserve the identity that has made the BR 03 so successful, while adapting it to the new times and maintaining its allure.”

Furthermore, the transformation of the case size from 42mm to 41 also brought changes to the lugs, from 4.5mm to 44. The strap of the BR 03 also became narrower. Performance-wise, the new BR 03 models now come equipped with the BR-CAL.302 automatic movement, which boasts a power reserve of 54 hours.
<h2>WINGS SPREAD WIDE</h2>
The newest iteration of the BR 03 collection is also notable in its variety. First up are three models presented in black cases, either Black Matte, Phantom or Heritage. These designs appear resolutely retro and also sporty with straps made of black rubber and ultra-resilient black synthetic fabric. The next three models come in polished steel cases with black, blue and brown dials, respectively called Black Steel, Blue Steel and Golden Heritage. The latter is a new tone that was chosen to evoke a vintage look. Similarly vintage-looking but arguably more striking is the BR 03 Copper. The dial, as the name of the watch implies, is made of galvanized copper, and is enhanced with engraved black numerals and indexes, along with blue metallic hands. The overall effect is perhaps best described as “retro charm with a modern twist.”

Finally, there’s the BR 03 Military Ceramic, which comes in a matte black ceramic case and features a khaki dial. More than anything, the military motifs of this watch highlights how Bell &amp; Ross has always been inspired by military aviation.
