Celebrating a pioneer. Selasar Sunaryo Art Space in Bandung is showcasing artist Yudi Yudoyoko until February 19, 2012.
Bandung-born Yudoyoko has lived in South America for the past eight years (Uruguay and Argentina), but in the early 1990s, Yudoyoko was one of the pioneering artists of experimental art in Indonesia. This exhibition features the work of Yudoyoko over the last two decades and includes installations and drawings.
The exhibition is divided into two parts. The first displays Yudoyoko’s latest digital print pieces and a mural entitled Aku adalah Bumi (I am the earth), which is a recent work completed during his time in Uruguay. The second part of the exhibition is an effort to review the artist’s work of the 1990s and includes photographs, drawings and collages incorporated in the series A Man and an Egg (1993), Original Sin (1995) and Raja Congcot (1995).
At the time, these pieces created a reputation for Yudoyoko as one of the rising-star artists in Indonesia and he’s been very influential for the current generation of artists. The exhibition is
being curated by Agung Hujatnikajennong.
