The brand’s first fully-electric sports car signals the start of a new era
Porsche Indonesia has recently unveiled the Taycan Turbo S, the brand’s first fully-electric sports car, to the public of Jakarta. And for sure, the car definitely stands out with its clean and puristic design. It’s safe to say, the Porsche Taycan Turbo S marks the beginning of a new era.
At first glance, we can instantly see that the Taycan Turbo S retains the unmistakable Porsche design DNA. For instance, from the front, it looks particularly wide and flat with highly contoured wings. Aside to that, the sleek cabin, the drawn-in rear C-pillar, the silhouette itself—which is shaped by the sporty roofline sloping downward to the rear—and the highly sculpted side sections are also strong characteristics of Porsche styling. There are also innovative elements such as the glass-effect Porsche logo, which has been integrated into the light bar at the rear. In short, the Porsche Taycan Turbo S surely knows how to make a first impression that will last.
Inside, the word unique might be the best way to describe the car. For one, the cockpit signals the start of a new era for the interior design at Porsche with its clear structure and a completely new architecture. The brand—for the very first time—offers an entirely leather-free interior option with the Taycan. In order to underscore the sustainable concept of the electric sports car, the interior is made from innovative recycled materials.
To top it off, all user interfaces have been designed from scratch for the Taycan. This means that the number of classic hardware controls such as switches and buttons have been greatly reduced. Instead, the controls are intelligent and intuitive. Everything is now done through touch or voice, as the car responds to the verbal command, “Hey, Porsche.”
All you have to do is to touch operation or uses the voice control function, which simply responds to the command “Hey Porsche.”
On the Road
At its core, the Taycan Turbo S has two exceptionally efficient electric motors, one on the front axle and one on the rear axle, thus making the car all-wheel drive. Speaking about the rear axle, the two-speed transmission installed on it is an innovation developed by the brand. The first gear gives the Taycan even more acceleration from a standing start, while the second gear, with its long gear ratio, ensures high efficiency and equally high-power reserves while traveling at high speeds.
Moving on, the car itself is supplemented by a special setting which maximizes efficient operation. The different mode profiles—from Normal, Sport, Sport Plus, Range and Individual—also follow the same philosophy as in other Porsche model series. The Taycan Turbo S can generate up to 560 kW (761 PS) over-boost power in combination with Launch Control. This is enough to propel the car from zero to 100km/h in a mere 2.8 seconds.
On a more technical note, in terms of charging, the Taycan is the first production vehicle with a system voltage of 800 volts instead of the commonly used 400 volts for electric cars. This gives a particular advantage for Taycan drivers on the road, as the battery can be recharged using direct current (DC) from the high-power charging network for a range of up to 100 kilometers, in just over five minutes.
On the other hand, the charging time from five to 80-percent State of Charge (SoC) is just 22.5 minutes under ideal conditions and the maximum charging power (peak) is 270 kW. Finally, with the overall capacity of the Performance Battery Plus at 93.4 kWh, you can comfortably charge your car with up to 11 kW of alternating current (AC) at your home.
As the most powerful model in the new E-Performance range, the four-door sports sedan is a unique package. The Taycan Turbo S offers characteristic performance and connectivity with everyday usability, while at the same time, its features are setting new standards in the fields of sustainability and digitalization.
Combining style, luxury, electric motors and cutting-edge technology, the sleek Porsche Taycan Turbo S fuses elegance, power and excitement for urban driving with agility. All in all, with a range of up to 412 kilometers—according to the WLTP (Worldwide Harmonized Light Vehicles Test Procedure)—the modules inside the car have the highest power density (kW per liter of package space) of all electric powertrains on the market today.
