To help you tackle the trends, find answers to some of the most frequently asked questions this season.
What kind of animal print pieces can work for everyday wear?
Animal print has been given quite a boost this season. Outerwear or sweaters are perhaps the easiest—and most universally acceptable—options for this family of patterns. Or shoes. The leopard print tasseled loafers from Celine’s fall 2019 is arguably one of the must-have items this season. Leopard print, by the way, is a rather neutral pattern that can compliment most skin tones and works well with most colors. It’s a versatile print that’s more interesting than, say, camouflage or even floral. But, this is the kind of look that needs to be laid out beforehand if you really want to impress.
How do you wear dramatically long scarves?
A long scarf is a winter must-have. And this season, Dior, Louis Vuitton and Valentino—to name a few—have given it a new twist. Namely, scarves in bright colors are now in—preferably those that are rather dramatically long. Not only do they add an extra layer of warmth, long scarves work great for layering, especially when you’re about to add other accessories like beanies, ear muffs and gloves.
How can you incorporate mountain wear into your daily outfits?
Models have walked down the runways of fall/winter 2019/20 with thick roll-neck sweaters, jacquard pullovers with typical alpine or Nordic patterns, lumberjack plaid shirts and oversized puffer jackets fit for facing the harsh weather of winter. The mountaineering look will be the epitome of chic next winter and the theme proved to be easy to mix and match. Just take a look at Fendi, DSquared2 and Off-White. Not only appealing to wear, these have the nineties feel to it. To add a bit of mountain wear in your daily look, especially if you’re in a tropical country, don’t add too many layers and stick to dark or muted colours. Pick a bright colored outer, possibly with a neon touch, then pair it up with an all-black ensemble. This way you wouldn’t look too much like you’re heading off to conquer a distant mountain peak.
How do you wear the unbuttoned jacket without a shirt underneath?
Believe it or not, the most essential accessory when you’re wearing a jacket unbuttoned is simply your bare skin. That being said, if you are going the “no shirt underneath your jacket” route, you might want to keep your bared chest accessorized, perhaps with a necklace. Moving down, denim trousers would offer the best match, but a casual pair of slacks would work just as well. As for the jacket itself, since we’re entering the colder months of the year, a thickly layered one would definitely be recommended to keep you warm and comfy as you try your hand at giving off a subtly sexy vibe.
Yay or Nay: Denim blazer
Denim made quite a presence in the runways of the season. Tailoring, meanwhile, is taking a hit from the general move toward athleisure, which further paved the way for the rise of denim suits. Oversized denim jackets were seen—complete with patch pockets and camp collars—on the shows of Jacquemus, Jill Sander and E Tautz. In short, denim, in all its incarnations, is here to stay and it’s hard to go wrong with the material. So, that’s a definite yay for denim, even in the form of a blazer.
