Disney’s sixth D23 finally wraps up after a three-day convention. The event took place from the 23rd to 25th of August at the Anaheim Convention Center, in Anaheim, California, which essentially serves as a mini comic con dedicated to just Disney Properties.
This year’s D23 was mainly used by Disney to market their upcoming streaming service, Disney+, which will launch this November. Other than that, its sister company Marvel Studios needed the chance for damage repairs after a bad week in the press due to the collapse of Marvel’s Spider-Man deal with Sony. Other than that, here are a few highlights of Disney’s 2019 D23:
Kit Harrington Announced As Latest Marvel’s “The Eternals” Cast
Following their appearance at July’s San Diego Comic Con, the cast of Marvel’s “The Eternals” made their second group appearance at the D23 panel. This time, they were joined by Game of Thrones’s Kit Harrington which will play Dane Whitman aka Black Night. Crazy Rich Asian’s Gemma Chan also made an appearance alongside Harrington and will play a character named Sersi. “The Eternals” tells a story about a group of aliens who have been on earth for thousands of years, where it will also feature Salma Hayek and Angelina Jolie.
Tom Holland Breaks Silence On Spider-Man’s Fate
Tom Holland finally breaks silence on Spider-Man’s Disney and Sony dispute in day one of the event. Tom appeared in an onstage presentation with fellow Avengers Chris Pratt in the light of their upcoming Pixar animation film. At the end of his appearance, the young British actor addressed the crowd “It’s been a crazy week, but I want you to know that I am grateful from the bottom of my heart…and I love you 3000”. Fox News reported that the audience cheered and screamed wildly to show their support of Spider-Man not leaving the MCU Universe.
J.J Abram’s Announces His Star Wars Trilogy Finale
Together with many of his Star Wars saga cast members, director J.J Abrams announced that the next Star Wars flick would end the saga. His final film, titled “Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker”, will come out in December 20 this year. A teaser poster was released followed by a trailer that is exclusively shown at the event. The event also saw the announcement of a Obi Wan Kenobi spin-off that will star Ewan McGregor to reprise his role as the jedi master, and also a TV series called “The Mandalorian” which features GOT and Narcos’ Pedro Pascal.
