TERRORIZING THE TERRORIST. Katheryn Bigelow cemented her reputation as a world-class director with her intense bomb-defusing thriller The Hurt Locker, which won for Best Picture in 2010.
Last Christmas, she released her latest film, Zero Dark Thirty, which also deals with the military but using a story ripped from relatively recent headlines. The film track the efforts of the CIA to hunt down Osama Bin Laden. There has been some debate about whether the film glorifies or criticizes the use of torture to get information from terrorists, but there is no doubt that Bigelow’s film riveting throughout.
